Lifted!

I just bought Lifted or The Story Is In The Soil, Keep Your Ear To The Ground! This is my first venture into the world of Bright Eyes, and after having heard many great things about this musical veichle, my expectations were quite high.

So far–after listening to the whole thing about three times–I really like it. At first it all seemed rather unfocused and messy, but the mood of the whole album is slowly revealing itself. I honestly think that the album deserves to be listened to as a whole, but tracks such as The Big Picture, Lover I Don't Have To Love, Bowl Of Oranges and From A Balance Beam really stick to me as individual pieces. I have to mention the liner notes as well, they are very well conceived, and the artwork is simply wonderful. I don't know the concept behind this record, but it looks like there's a lot of storytelling going on–I'll have to pay more attention to the lyrics. Great stuff!

Apart from going exploring I have bought some records from more familiar artists. Seven Swans is a fitting example, and I can't put into words how much I love this record! It contains some of the most beautiful music I have heard. The way Sufjan Stevens manages to implement religious topics into his lyrics is also very fascinating. Even though I'm not a Christian, the morale in songs as Abraham and the title track is something everyone can relate to, I guess. I find all of the songs on this album affecting. Especially the slow build-up and gorgeous lyrics of Sister and the pure loveliness of The Dress Looks Nice On You … And I truly adore the banjo! Makes me feel like buying one.

Any comments would be nice. As far as Bright Eyes is concerned; I don't know if «Lifted» is a fitting introduction to their work, but I would appreciate any suggestions on where to go next. There's so much music out there–I'm so privileged to be part of this world!
