Not yet on Last.fm: Viola da gamba performers

There are some notable viola da gamba performers who are not yet on Last.fm, either because they do not record at all — or because they do record but their albums are filed by composer rather than performer — or simply because no one on Last.fm has scrobbled them yet. So let's take notice of them in this article.

Ensembles
* Diapente Viol Consort, founded 2001.
* Ensemble Tourbillon, covering the 17th and 18th centuries, was founded in 1998 by Czech gambist Petr Wagner.
* Kölner Violen Consort, founded 1970 by Heiner Spicker, Cologne, Germany (and finally scrobbled in March 2012).
* Maresienne Consort, mixed ensemble directed by Ibi Aziz, viola da gamba.
* Squair Mile Consort of Viols, founded 1992 in Scotland.
* La Violetta, founded by Paulina van Laarhoven, is a consort of up to six viols based in The Hague. The ensemble gets its name from Praetorius' term for the treble viol.
* Yukimi Kambe Viol Consort, founded 1983 in Tokyo, touring in North America.

Individuals
* Fahmi Alqhai, from Spain, solos with Hespèrion XXI and other noted ensembles, plays duets with harpsichordist Javier Núñez, and founded the group Accademia del Piacere. He also plays jazz. He has a 2004 album, Canzone, Fantasie, et Correnti that hasn't yet been scrobbled.
* Mary Artmann (http://www.rockyridge.org/faculty/strings.htm), from California, a busy teacher and member of several ensembles.
* Martha Bishop (http://www.marthabishop.com/), from Atlanta, plays bass string instruments, teaches, edits scores, and composes music.
* Lutz Heiwolt (http://www.heiwolt.de/lutz/, in German), a student of Heiner Spicker in Cologne, August Wenzinger in Basel, and Wieland Kuijken in The Hague. He teaches in Cologne and Aachen, and is a member of the Cologne Viol Consort (Kölner Violen-Consort).
* John Hsu taught cello and viola da gamba at Cornell from 1955 to 2005. He specialized in French baroque music, edited the first complete modern edition of Marin Marais' instrumental works, performed internationally with the gamba and baryton, founded the Apollo Ensemble, and was named a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2000.
*Annette Otterstedt and Hans Reiners can be met on their own terms at their website, Bows & Viols.
*Eva Reiter is a young Austrian performer on the gamba and recorder, and a member of several groups and projects that merge early and contemporary music. These include Ensemble Mikado, the baroque duo Le Badinage, and Christian Fennesz' music for Nanuk, der Eskimo.
*Petr Wagner is a Czech gambist and conductor, famous for his recording of music by Charles Dollé and Gottfried (Godfrey) Finger.

Founders
The viola da gamba went out of fashion by about 1800. It was revived in the 20th century, as part of the movement toward historically informed performance of baroque and early music. Among the first few musicians to relearn the instrument, and to teach others to play it, are
* August Wenzinger (Basel)
* Wieland Kuijken (The Hague)
* Heiner Spicker (Cologne)

Only Kuijken's recordings are on Last.fm, although Wenzinger has been scrobbled a few times as a conductor, not as a gambist.
