I truly believe music should be pure, truthful and untainted. I believe it should be an honest expression, and not some mind-numbing Prozac for the masses, like how most mainstream music function nowadays.
Steven Wilson wrote, in his Porcupine Tree song "The Sound of Muzak": The music of the future will not entertain. It's only meant to repress and neutralize your brain. Soul gets squeezed out, edges get blunt. Demographic gives what you want.
Unfortunately we are already there, but there are still lots of wonderful music released on labels that firstly support the music behind the genuine artist. There are still labels that doesn't lure their artists with a fat check to alter their sound to fit and please the mindless masses (that has no real interest in music)... and there are still artists who rather stay on more independent labels than selling their souls and the idea of their music for a nice mansion in Beverly Hills. This gives me hope for the future. You can be successful without any commercial media attention. The spirit of music will never die!







Some fave albums:


Elend's second album is probably the one album which has given me the most emotional satisfaction. Its Milton'esque Luciferian theme has been very inspiring to me in more than one way. This is the most epic and moving album ever.


The last Elend album is the Luciferian trilogy demands even more from the listener, but contains some of the most beautiful and horrifying moments in Elend history. War in Heaven and dark angel beauty.


One almost forgotten but important album in emotional doom/death history is this one, their debut from 1993. Along with My Dying Bride they were the first with violin and best band in this genre. This album is still one of the best emotional doom/death albums. The past is alive!


Saviour Machine's second part in the trilogy about Armageddon is perhaps one of the most apocalyptic and epic albums ever made. I don't really care much about the bands own religious views, because this is told as a story and the soundscapes and arrangements are just stunning, breathtaking and magnificent.


This is the first album with Vincent on vocals, and maybe their best album... or at least equally good as "Serenades". This is what emotional doom/death is all about; darkness, aggravation and beauty. There's something abstract and timeless about this shady creation. I adore it!


If you need ONE gothic rock album for your collection, this is it! Fields of the Nephilim is perhaps the darkest and best band in their genre, and this album proves it. An all-time favourite indeed!


This is the ultimate My Dying Bride album. This is one, or perhaps the most important album in the history of gothic doom death metal. This is where MDB found their sound, and it's pure, dark, innovative, romantic, depressive and majestic. "Turns Lose the Swans" is a big proof that music was better in the last century.


The British experimental progband Pure Reason Revolution manage to impress me each and every time I listen to them. No other band sounds like their debut "The Dark Third". The songs are colorful, dreamy, strange, moving, transcendental and hopeful with a touch of melancholy. Tip: See them live.


It's hard to chose a favorite Marillion album. Some of my fave-songs with this amazing band are on other albums, but this is truly a masterpiece. Contains the amazing "Neverland" and "Ocean Cloud". Progressive, emotional and innovative rockmusic for dreamers.


Oh my! The "Stupid Dream" album with Porcupine Tree is perhaps the best progalbum of all modern bands in this genre. Contains great songs such as Stop Swimming, Don't Hate Me and A Smart Kid. One of The albums in my life!
