I'd be tempted to call it one of their best. It's certainly a decent album. It's just strange hearing their writing so polished and seamless, when we're used to hearing them being rather abrasive and unpredictable. There's a strong pop influence and some of the songs are a bit too repetitive as a result, but they are incredibly catchy (esp. Last Garrison and Torn Apart). Their lyrical writing is certainly at its peak. I'd maybe put it behind Flash Flood as their best album for me personally, I'm just a sucker for how daring and saturated in electronic influences it is. Orchestral and hip-hop vibes on Mindsweep may be new territory for them but it doesn't quite feel as interesting when bands have been doing that for over a decade now.

Life On Earth is definitely my favourite Tiny Vipers release, but you can't really go wrong with either LP. Also, The Glow Pt. 2 is one of my favourite records ever, great choice. Chelsea Wolfe's earlier records and Giles Corey are worth a look for more dark folky stuff. CW's newest record is excellent too, it's just probably closer to experimental/goth than folk, there's more electronic elements in there.

Give Tiny Vipers a shot if you're feeling like some more depressive folksy stuff. Her collaboration with Liz Harris/Grouper (Mirrorring) is also excellent.

It's good. Doesn't reinvent the wheel as far as his sound goes, but it's a very captivating listen. I feel like it peaks around the middle of the record, some of those longer tracks are pure magic, they put you in a trancelike state. Oh hey, did you listen to Kayo Dot - Coffins on Io yet?

I've really warmed to Bedhead. Their compositions are so sparse and yearning, perfect for those quiet mornings. Glad to see we're still super after all this time!

Doing good, mate, just buzzing over the new Boards of Canada album being announced. First Godspeed, then MBV, now BoC. It's been a big 6 or so months for huge bands returning and dropping albums.

I forgot to tell you that you were spot on with that Final Fantasy 9 recommendation. I enjoyed it way more as an adult than I did as a child. I think the edgy-ness of 7-8 ruined 9 for me as a kid.
