Compilation album of Southern New Jersey, or South Jersey for short, bands that I did the album art for, I'm friends with several of the bands and it's totally worth a listen and I'm not just saying that, even though it seems that way!
  • Cock Stoppers

    Jan 13 2009, 23h03

You're out at a party, you're flirting with a cute girl/guy, things are going well, your friend comes out of nowhere and drunkenly sidles up to you and begins to relay embarrassing and gross stories of your misadventures together. You have been cock blocked.

It's horribly annoying at the time, but as life goes on it becomes a more and more amusing story. Well, I'd like to collect these tales of woe into a repository of wacky slice of life stories, much akin to blogs such as: http://peopleinolongertalkto.blogspot.com/

So please if you have any good ones about yourself, or a friend, send em to me, I'll keep it anonymous, switch it into a nameless or made up name first person whoojigger. It'll be fun for all!

To keep things musical things for the recent days:

http://www.norelpref.com/ a pretty sweet mashup blog!
  • A Journal Entry Full of Pertinent Questions and Thoughts For Bettering Our…

    Jul 3 2008, 18h53

I bet you thought this was a journal about people mistagging stuff and how gay joke tags are? Well it's not and they're not.

I was just poking around following bands and such and checking what stuff is tagged as if it's something new I'm listening to.

And here's where the thought comes in, so I'm listening to Jesu for the first time, and I'm enjoying it, well the tags for them are pretty wide ranging, , AND ? Well that seems a bit hard to believe, but the thing is, there are so many different genres these days it's hard to even keep up with what things mean. I have no idea what doom metal means, I can't even tell teh difference between and . As far as I knew bands like Giant Squid and Mastodon were sludge, maybe throw in stuff like Dystopia for a sludge combo.

So what I'm thinking is, last.fm is a music connection site where you can get together with others, learn about bands, write about them, there are certainly enough people who actually know something to fill out a page on a genre. So why not? If I click on Doom Metal instead of just giving me a list of bands tagged as Doom metal or bands tagged as crust punk, why don't you do that and have a blurb explaining what makes something a particular genre. It would certainly help with mistaggings and make the site more informative.

Now I'm sure some of you out there will go OH THIS WILL BE ABUSED. Hi, yeah, shit's already being abused, the amount of good this will do would in my mind counter balance, hopefully we wouldn't have to lock things down like they do with say Tool or Sanjaya Malakar. Anyway I don't think it would be to hard to just set it up so that only tags with a certain amount of uses could be written about, although as it is bands with only three or so listeners have pages on them, I know since I wrote a page for Crack Filler and Karma Bat two local acts that I'm sure no one on last.fm could give two tugs of a dead dogs cock about.

So yeah, it seems like a pretty sweet idea to me! Although I'm sure posting a journal about it will do nothing but bring ridicule and shame!

In other news I just got some more Funkadelic, Dan Deacon, Skullflower, Grouper and Lost Sounds all of which have been really fun and cool listens, Lost Sounds really got me out of a funk of slight boredom with punk, they're just great I highly recommend them and Jay Reatards other projects.

  • Being All Deep and Shit

Yamaoka Tesshu, as a young student of Zen, visited one master after another. He called upon Dokuon of Shokoku.

Desiring to show his attainment, he said: "The mind, Buddha, and sentient beings, after all, do not exist. The true nature of phenomena is emptiness. There is no realization, no delusion, no sage, no mediocrity. There is no giving and nothing to be received."

Dokuon, who was smoking quietly, said nothing. Suddenly he whacked Yamaoka with his bamboo pipe. This made the youth quite angry.

"If nothing exists," inquired Dokuon, "where did this anger come from?"

So anyway check out Dub Side of the Moon if you're looking for something the same but a little bit different, there are some pretty good covers on there. And a little dub never hurt anyone (wakka wakka).

Other mentions, 1800s Sea Monster have some new free stuff up, if you liked them the last time I mentioned them you might want to grab it.

I also just discovered Dan Deacon through a British friend, watching the video to crystal cat pretty much blew what is left of my mind, he is supposedly one of the best live acts ever if you're looking for an intense party atmosphere or as he apparently says getting "Sassy as fuck"

Oh and if you haven't gotten the Beetis yet, get it.
  • I was a teenage concentric circle (but I would never tell you that)

Stick welding is a difficult but ultimately rewarding process. Learning to do it makes you manly and marketable. You know what else does that? Not listening to bizarre music, but I know you want to anyway so here are some high points of my freshmen year so far.

Koenji Hyakkei-totally insane, operatic vocals in a language no one will ever understand (no not japanese) as well as hypnotic chanting is pulled together with a very Battles-esque form of musical composition, well worth a look.

Please Inform the Captain This is a Hijack-this is probably my favourite find of the new semester so far, robot obsessed political punk with a passion for sampling, creating catchy, charged songs, A Completely New Weapon is a great song.

Holy Fuck-a lofi electronica project with really awesome results, the tracks sync together really well so for a really tasty listen the whole self titled album is a must. i pretty much listened to it on loop for a week straight.

Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains-is great fun for the whole family, if your family is a bunch of societal rejects who like to drink and abuse drugs, great lyrically, the vocals can take a little getting used to, but if you like folk punk you will probably like this. Unless you don't. then you're a fag.

several singles have really re-caught my attention lately as well!

TocarThe Model and TocarBad Penny are both getting up there in my lists as favourites. The track Birthdays is catchy as hell and there have been many a drunken night stumbling home chanting RUNNING OUT OF BIRTHDAYS I'M RUNNING OUT OF BIRTHDAYS with my friends.

I'm sure I've forgotten some things, but those are the recent high points.

Also I have recently joined one of my schools magazines, this ones purpose is generally to fuck with people and mock the school, or y'know actually do relevant articles on the political climate and stuff. But mostly fuck with people. I'm part of the art board mostly but if any of you kids have wacky fun ideas, especially for musical articles launch em at me.

I'm gonna interrobang the shit out of you.

Also if you're sitting around bored at home get out your soulseek, and search for I Like Japanese Hardcore They're funky folk-ish stuff. And their tags also say they're , Adolf Hitler is also tagged as twee on occasion so y'know, they must be good.
  • Shouting at boxes

    Mai 9 2007, 4h02

So I really enjoy communicating with others via shoutbox, it's fast and frivolous and nothing warms me more then a cute random message. What I do wonder about though, is shoutbox etiquette. How long should I wait in between shouting someone so as not to appear to needy or as if I'm just on all the time refreshing my page and masturbating over the music I listen to and how my opinion is better then others? Is it rude to wait to long? I guess I don't care about actual etiquette since I'm a downright jerk.
