Got O from a friend today. Listened to it. Listened to it again. Loved it. Damien Rice is a kind of "wow, what a damned beautiful music"-songwriter. It absolutely crazy how great his songs are.
My favourites: The Blower's Daughter
Canonball
Older Chests

The whole album feels damned good from the first song on to the last one. It's not the kind of music you have to hear 20 times to feel it and to understand it but its also not as easy as more "poppy" stuff. Maybe to soft or beautiful for mainstream...

Mainstream?... Damien Rice?... James Blunt! I like Mr Blunt very much. I love his Back to Bedlam. My favourite track is Goodbye My Lover. I don't care about his puplicity.. his position in charts or whatever. But some other "alternative" people do. It's kinda mainstream-o-phobia. "james Blunt? What a fuck! He's number X in German Top 20.. Only little girls listen to his music!" I don't understand people like this. I mean what an effect has the chartposition on the quality of music? Maybe it's hard to see that your discovery is getting more and more popular. Maybe you'll be sad that your own secret private favourite singer is getting more and more fans.. but what the hell is it that makes his music bad from this day on? I mean it's not like System of a Down, who totally got away from their style to a more pop way, releasing two 30 minute albums in 6 months. I don't know...

So I ask you people who like D. Rice and hate J. Blunt - WHY? They are both beautiful and both delicate and they sound quite common.. so.. why care about publicity?

-whatever-

Well, personally I like Damien Rice because he brings something very different to the singer-songwriter thing. I'd never heard an acoustic track anything like Volcano. I like the way the sounds of the wedding are used on Cheers Darlin'- and Eskimo, where it evolves into opera is just mind blowing. And James Blunt? I don't hate him - but to put it Bluntly, he's predictable and ordinary.

... nice argument Demmi ... over here (U.S.), most people haven't heard of either (or the negative public image they seem to have)... well said.

Well, IMHO James Blunt Jack Johnson make a kind of elevator-music. Damien Rice and Elliott Smith do/did ( :( ) not make such music. Damien Rice & Elliott Smith >> James Blunt & Jack Johnson EDIT: Ok, they both make elevator-music, but the difference is: When you her James Blunt (or Jack Johnson) in an elevator and you reach your floor, you leave the elevator. When you hear Damien Rice (or Elliott Smith), you stay. ^^ Does anyone understand me?

@Mannhai. Agree with you partly. This Weekend i listened a lot to Damien Rice and got to know how ingeniuos his music is. Mr Blunt can't keep up with this kinda genius. But no reason to dislike him. He's still really beautiful, bot not as much as Damien Rice.

Good Journal I really agree with you Demmi. I love Damien Rice and Elliott Smith sooo much. This music gave me so much...dont know. But i dont hate James Blunt. My Problem is, his songs are played everyday in germany's radio stations. That stressed me out. I cant hear this voice no more. But i never said i hate his music. Yeah its probably good music, but the fucking radio stations destroyed it for me... Actual i dont listen to the radio but in my new home they do... :/ Oh i talk to much..just wanna say that i love the music of damien rice... :>
