Eyehategod is pretty awesome if you like hardcore punk at a punishing pace. Dopesick is best described as aural violence.

I actually bought a Grand Belial's Key album before. I don't remember much but I was impressed at the time so it's probably worth a second listen through. I actually did download some Bongripper, Church of Misery, Ufomamaut, and Carnivore. Church of Misery was pretty ok, a huge Sabbath vibe but... it left me neutral. I'll get back to you on SSORC. I did download it once but my computer died and I lost that album.

They're solid. Nothing new, nothing utterly amazing but nothing done so poorly that you'd regret listening to. Viking Pirates of Doom would probably be their most catchy song or at least the most standout song off of the album it's from.

Be the first on your block to join my very newest group: Immortal Rock Vocalists. The connections are based on three music lists at www.digitaldreamdoor.com: Greatest Rock Vocalists -- Male, Greatest Rock Vocalists -- Female, and Classic/Modern Rock Vocalists -- Female . The connections are complete: the radio is still under construction. Place note that you will hear some non-rock on the radio, because this is based on vocalists who may cross over into gospel, soul, funk, pop, and country. The connections are individual artists, but the radio will include any bands or groups they are associated with: in many cases the band is better known than the singer. The lists are the opinion of the authors and are sure to inspire discussion and dissent. Good! Bring your opinions and your own lists and jump into the fray!

Acid Bath and Eyehategod only though. Melvins aren't always sludgy. I'll probably check out Buzzoven and Crowbar next.

No problem, it's a great group. Who doesn't love when people experiment? Oh, yeah. I have to thank my love of horror movies for my finding them. Lucky Mckee is a godsend when it comes to music. haha. A few months of relentlessly searching what I thought I heard of their lyrics, and I finally found them--even though I'd heard 'Heaven Wasn't In The Sky' years before, I never knew who they were. Now they're a favorite group. <3 & Gotta say, you've got great taste!

I hope you can find a system that works for you. I guess the key is to keep experimenting. Somebody has to be the lead role. I think you have a good sense musicality and how it works, but the more difficult part is finding a way to express this urge in a productive and fulfilling manner; not just for yourself, but for your other band mates as well. Keep rocking.

Interesting. I've been writing songs for my band now since 2006. In the last year or so, I've taken the reigns and redirected its path. I basically record every idea that goes into a song, including: two guitar parts, bass, drum tracks, vocals, and back-ups. I present the rough recordings to the band for an open discussion. Each member tweaks their own part, and then we put it in the line-up if we like it enough. We've cranked out at least 30 originals, but haven't been exposing them to a wider audience until recently. I agree that bands focus on the fashion more, and that's probably the dumbest idea that music industry has ever produced. I choose the music.
