Sobre mim

Hi, I'm Dan and I'm absolutely obsessed with music. I'd be really lost without it. My favourite band would have to be The Clash, which is rather self-explanatory.

There are two types of music: great music and shit music. Genre, gender, year, class and race are irrelevant. Only music that harbours or posesses significance and meaning is worth listening to.

My eclectic score is currently:

85/100

My Favourite Things:
Alice Bailey :),immersing myself in music, pure rock 'n' roll, indie ethics, songwriters, lyricists, family + friends, Arthur Rimbaud, weekends, English Literature (subject and texts),Alexa Chung, Keira Knightley, record shops, pretty eyes, writing poetry and lyrics, dark sunglasses, leather jackets, converse, melodrama, George Orwell, glam make-up, political slogans, 'camp' acts or people, music T-shirts, History, Aston Villa, money, photos, films, dystopia, Oscar Wilde, costume dramas (pretty girls!), Alan Partridge,Media Studies, Last FM and non-smokers.

Things That I 'Intensely Dislike':
Chavs, red-tops, the mainstream, money-grabbing pop bands, 'hard' people, Birmingham City, Heart FM's 10-song playlist, people who buy albums and only listen to the singles, Adam Sandler, the 'X-Factory', 18+ gigs, the use of the phrases 'Well good' and 'It was joke', bad grammar, burberry caps, those stupid wooly hats and £200 jumpers that chavs wear, my lack of confidence, misogny and The Hoosiers with their 'we invented a new genre' gimmick, no you didn't! You made a slightly off-kilter sound with your guitar, go you! They invented a new kind of shit band though, I'll give them that.

I am also a fan of the following DJs: Bob Dylan, Steve Lamacq, Mark Lamarr, Zane Lowe, Stuart Maconie, Mark Radcliffe and John Peel.

'Hey man... I don't mind being shot, I just don't dig being told about it.'
-Bob Dylan

'You gotta have some music like what you feel, otherwise you go barmy, don't ya?'
- Joe Strummer, The Clash

'You have the right to free speech, as long as you're not dumb enough to actually try it!!'
-The Clash, Know Your Rights

'Wipe out aristocracy now! Kill kill kill,Queen and country dumb flag scum! We are drowning in manufactured ego-fuck. Bordeom bred the thoughts of throwing bricks'
-Manic Street Preachers, NME 1991

'If there's any legal implications invloved in this... erm well I invented Live 8'
- Ryan Jarman, The Cribs

'I don't wanna be a bitch or anything but The Kooks, what the fuck?'
- Gary Jarman, The Cribs

'Someone has to be me, so it might as well be me'
- Morrissey

'The Marxists, Situationists, pseudo-bisexual-BAD POETS avec eyeliner, pseudo-leopardskin BAD POETS sans eyeliner, and the rest of the Cult Of Nothing should accept, for the last time, that with Richey went all feeble hopes of purity and guitars and profound graffiti.'

- Peter Doherty on Richey James Edwards

'I agreed that what really matters is what you like, not what you are like... Books, records, films -- these things matter. Call me shallow but it's the fuckin' truth'
- Rob Gordon, High Fidelity

'We've had a gay man guessing Kylie and a black woman guessing Bob Marley, we are doing nothing to subvert expectations!'
- Simon Amstell, Never Mind The Buzzcocks

'You're obliged to pretend respect for people and institutions you think absurd. You live attached in a cowardly fashion to moral and social conventions you despise, condemn, and know lack all foundation. It is that permanent contradiction between your ideas and desires and all the dead formalities and vain pretenses of your civilization which makes you sad, troubled and unbalanced. In that intolerable conflict you lose all joy of life and all feeling of personality, because at every moment they suppress and restrain and check the free play of your powers. That's the poisoned and mortal wound of the civilized world.'
-Octave Mirbeau, The Torture Garden

'He covered page after page with wild words of sorrow and wilder words of pain. There is a luxury in self-reproach. When we blame ourselves, we feel that no one else has a right to blame us. It is the confession, not the priest, that gives us absolution.'
- Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

'All the ways you wish you could be, that's me. I look like you wanna look, I fuck like you wanna fuck, I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I am free in all the ways that you are not.'
- Tyler Durden, Fight Club

'If you see a lovely field with a family having a picnic, and there's a nice pond in it, you fill in the pond with concrete, you plough the family into the field, you blow up the tree, and use the leaves to make a dress for your wife who is also your brother!'
- Alan Partridge

'Well, you know the way God made us all, right? And he's looking down at us from heaven and everything? And then his son came down and saved everyone and all that? And when we die we're all going to go to heaven? Well, that's the bit I have trouble with.'
- Father Dougal Maguire, Father Ted

'I think it's disgusting the way these punks sing about violence all the time. Why can't they sing about beautiful things like trees and flowers?'
-Tony Blackburn, Radio 1 DJ
