As for American lit, my favorite author (any era, any genre, any nation) is Thomas Pynchon, especially "Gravity's Rainbow," "Vineland," and "Against the Day." If you like American studies, also check out his late 90's work, "Mason and Dixon." Other favorite American authors include Kurt Vonnegut (especially "Cat's Cradle" and "The Sirens of Titan") as well as Philip K. Dick. As you can see, I like the postmodern stuff. This is a short reply, I could fill up your whole shoutbox talking about other authors (Fitzgerald is another favorite, as is Faulkner).

By the way, I saw on your profile your interest in English lit. I am a doctoral student of English literature - are you interested in British Lit or American Lit? Any favorite authors? Well, MGS3 would be the best as a stand-alone game imo, I enjoyed the story a lot more in 2, because of its weirdness I think, so 3 took a wrong turn in that road. Like Liquid taking over Ocelot through his arm and stuff, that was cool as hell. And yeah, agree with you on 4, everything in the plot was just harsh tieing-the-knot-crap ("blame it on the nanos"). But I did fall for the Shadow Moses level, like everyone else.

I live in Yorkshire (from Lancashire), England and study English Literature.
I am interested in painting, history, modern art, cycling, films, telly comedy and music. I really like last.fm.
I like music with soul. I like strong melodies, thoughtful lyrics and diverse instrumentation. And some other stuff.
I generally dislike prog-rock and punk (bar the Ramones). Powerchords + shouting doesn't usually appeal to me.
If you think I'd like some music, please tell me! Unless it's your band.
