2011 for Gaylords: Prelude

Jan 14 2012, 18h36

A real quick list of honorable mentions before we get on with the admittedly unnecessarily large list I've put together for the year in music. That nobody'll read.

Except you. You're my friend, right? You'll read my crap! Yay!

The Cars - Move Like This
For when I miss the 80s.

Primus - Green Naugahyde
For when I remember how fun it is to be weird.

WU LYF - Go Tell Fire to the Mountain
For when I can't understand a fucking word but it still makes perfect sense.

The Caretaker - An empty bliss beyond this World
For those eerie little moments.

Raekwon - Shaolin vs. Wu-tang
For when y'awll gotsta bust out some muthafuckin' SWAG.

Havoc - Time is Up
For my inner sixteen year old.

Zola Jesus - Conatus
For when I want to drown in the darkness.

Kryptic Minds - Can't Sleep
For when I... well, you can probably see where I'm going with this one.

Battles - Gloss Drop
For when I want to nod my head to the music before realizing how god damn smart it is.

Acylum - Karzinom
For that sinking feeling.

Puscifer - Conditions of My Parole
For when you want to smooth out the bizarre to your liking.

Kuedo - Severant
For that woozy state.

Nils Frahm - Felt
For those delicately pretty moments.

Mastodon - The Hunter
For when nothing is loud enough.

Disma - Towards the Megalith
For when I miss death metal from the days of old.

The Black Dahlia Murder - Ritual
For when I don't.

Cults - Cults
For when I want a cavity.

Britney Spears - Femme Fatale
For when I don't care about anything but dancing like an idiot.

The Horrors - Skying
For the teenagers making out in the backseat in 1989.

Eddie Vedder - Ukelele Songs
For when I lose my love.

And real quick, I gotta get the year's disappointments and, well, downright crap out of me:

Black Veil Brides - Set the World on Fire
I still don't understand exactly why this band exists.

Lou Reed and Metallica - Lulu
What a terrible, terrible idea this was.

David Guetta - Nothing but the Beat
Nothing would have been so much better...

Korn - The Path of Totality
"We were dubstep before there was dubstep."

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter IV
No fucking talent. I have tried and tried, but I am not hearing what everyone else seems to be.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - I'm With You
311 - Universal Pulse
Incubus - If Not Now, When?
Atmosphere - The Family Sign
Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
All five of these bands I looooove, and yet these albums were shockingly generic.

Anyway, see y'awllz next time.

Cool list bro. I take it you'll not be doing a top 100 this year if Battles aren't going to be on it.
