Why the hell do they still make CDs???

Behold another reason to rejoice! Another step in the burial of the traditional music industry - Dreamgale finally released their first album - as a free download. Then some folks who like their CDs to be fingerable asked when they can get one, and Dreamgale said (based on what I read on their page): "CDs? We don't do that stuff anymore." This is real, I've checked. The songs are right here, on Last.fm, ready to be downloaded (some are pretty good too, like 
Rays Of A Frozen Sun). From what I've understood the guys got fed up with their record company wasting their time on what would not be able to pay their rent anyway.
And I say "Hallelujah!". Welcome to the 21st century! Anyone else still hoping to earn some pennies selling disks people hardly remember where to stick in (don't give them to the kids, they get sharp if broken)? Feed the hungry record companies? Or maybe it is time for the industry to accept that selling music is no more - time to find new means of survival.

I have another answer: Audio Quality. If you're going to release a free album, at least release it in a lossless format, like FLAC, ALAC, or even WAV. But not mp3s, please. And Last.fm's free downloads are at a shitty 128 kbps bitrate. -

And sadly, VERY few artists do. The trend is going to mp3s. They don't occupy too much server bandwidth, so people simply release albums in low quality, unlike Nine Inch Nails, which even allowed you to download The Slip on a better than CD quality.

+ i love artworks... im not a fanc of the CD itself... but i sure prefer the audio quality to that of the mp3 (i use lossless, but too much space !!!). + the artwork !!! -
