An epic decision was reached the other day. One i thought may never transpire. Tool has been surpassed as my top band.
1) Devin Townsend. He can no longer be denied. The sheer quantity of his work is staggering. His catalog is so huge i still find songs and works I've overlooked. It's diverse, progressive, innovative, and he's never compromised it for anyone. He produces, mixes, releases. The man is a tireless genius and i have a tremendous respect for how he's done things.
So for those of us who sometimes lament the state of Canadian music and the garbage we throw on the world stage; fuck it, we've got Devin! and in my opinion, that means we've got the best.
2) Tool. Will always hold a special place in my heart. I don't need to tell anyone how amazing they are. They have been my favorite for a long time, and will always be associated with that period of time. But my past 1.5 year listening has been dominated by Devin Townsend, the Devin Townsend Band, and S.Y.L. 10,000 days wasn't enough to keep them ahead of the tidal wave of Townsend releases.
3) Nine Inch Nails. The first music that i really connected with. I bought the downward spiral and never looked back. One of the key components of being in my top 10 is music that has an emotional impact on me, and NIN certainly does that.
4) Opeth. I love Opeth. I don't know what else to say. I can't help but growl when listening to it, and I require a certain amount of high volume Opeth per week or i get cranky.
5) Lamb of God. Sometimes i lose my voice when listening to Ashes of the Wake.
