Maybe I'm alone on this one

It took me a while to get used to B.B. King because on a lot of his songs, his guitar is just one of a couple dozen other instruments. I know other blues artists used orchestration, but his seems a lot more elaborate and central to the song. It's not bad, it just wasn't what I expected.

The last time I caught BB King live was around 82 - 83. He had fitted in an extra gig; one of those non advertised word of mouth events (the hall was still packed) in Birmingham during a UK tour. It was the first time I had seen him with his Big Band and I thought the whole show was amazing. I suppose it all comes down to the fact that although as a bluesman he's been around for a long time, he also belongs to that great tradition of showman. I'v always found his guitar style very 'vocal', cutting through the band like a diva on heat.
