The Meteors where the first band to be called a Psychobilly band, it's a British sub-genre, influenced by trash and rockabilly bands like the Cramps and the Stray Cats.. psychobilly is more of a musical attitude than a musical sound. Psychobilly is an umbrella term that covers the gap muisc that lays between true rockabilly, punk, surf, hard rock, thrash, R&B, jazz, blues, country, and hillbilly. The only thing that all psychobilly bands have in common is the low brow, in your face, fun attitude that tells listeners to set aside all of their differences and just have a good time together! It's camp, kitsch, lowbrow, and pop culture all rolled into one! It's fed by Big Daddy Roth, the drive in, hot rods, and creature feature/sci-fi shows! It's the definition of good humor built on bad taste! It's the lovechild of rock n' roll's feel good attitude, and punk's attitude of not caring what other people think of you! It's the heart and soul of feeling good!

that's why came into existence such new genres as surfabilly, trashabilly, gothabilly, punkabilly and many other 'billies' but always it was based on rockabilly and punk rock :)

more than just punk and rockabilly. in real psychobilly (such as The Cramps and Gun Club) there is jazz, R&B, garage rock, blues and basically all the best styles of music.

Seeing as though psychobilly is built from a mash up of genres, its a bit ridiculous (and wrong) to call any group true or pure psychobilly. Its like calling a mixed bred dog a "pure" mixed bred. I love psychobilly, but come on! Just listen to the music!
