it's really difficult to set the borders in this genre, because there are alot of bands that have classical hardcore punk roots like strung out and ignite with influence from the first wave of hardcore punk like black flag and the dead kennedys but don't seem very "hardcoreish" compared to newer bands like The Carrier, Comeback Kid and stuff. But as long as there is no greenday on this page i think everything is okay :)

People are actually saying this isn't a genre? When I first got into hardcore 5-6 years ago everyone at shows I talked to was using this term. It IS a subgenre of hardcore. It can refer to the melodic end of Old-school hardcore like Sinking Ships, Staygold, Paint it Black, Comeback Kid, or to pop-punk/punkier bands like Kid Dynamite, (old) Saves the Day, Lifetime. You can't say something is not a genre just because you are not knowledgeable to it's useage.

the term "melodic hardcore" is in usage since early 90s, I don't know why are all people crying about the tag. Oh and why are people calling hardcore bands with metal leads melodic hardcore? (see Ghost Inside), that wasn't, isn't and never will be melodic hardcore (unless scene kids and media deforms yet another tag meaning...)

Genre or no genre, catagorizing bands and tagging music is what last.fm is about. Even if you do it in the rarest little sub genres. It's all about scrobbling! If I scrobble just hardcore, i get all types of bands, post-hardcore, melodic whatever, but also hardcore-house, with subgenres (even the ones claimed not to be real) i can listen more specificially. Keep on tagging!
