@ Drostanxxx you got a point there, mainstream doesn't mean it's not always gothic. But calling Nightwish gothic metal goes really, really far. Epica, ok. But Nightwish...? Isn't The Dance an EP? I just meant studio albums from WT, Enter is probably only gothic metal then.

2nd WT cd's the dance, isn't it? it's got a lot of gothic. NW has occasional gothic overtones. people tag bands like NW, WT and Epica gothic/GM, they're popular and end up top of the top GM artists. social tagging's not an exact science; get over it (at least ToT's there)

My favorite Gothic Metal Bands are the ones that have a sound akin to Heavy Gothic Rock or like Deathrock (The Goth-Punk stuff not Death Metal) with heavier guitars. Even the band Christian Death did some of that.
