I think it's just easier to categorize hip-hop and rap as just that and not into too many sub-genres. Not much has changed in 20 years, after all, except that it's pretty much started sucking. And the only difference is, in essence, what each individual rapper can and can't do as well as the lyrics. Conclusion; gangsta rap is a stupid tag. End.
