ontem de manhãAlso, HeavenDuff -- you make a very good point about the misconception of a "front" member of a band. Most people probably don't really think about the fact that the rest of the band has just as much importance in the band, and in some cases the singer isn't even as involved as other members. I'm a little sad that you turned your good, well thought out comment into a sexist remark at the end, though (The part abut needing a sexy girl to sell the music). I also agree with fischziege, though -- I use this tag because it helps me keep track of the different ways that bands sound -- female voices as opposed to male voices.

Quarta de manhãno such thing as a front woman? not only is that incredibly sexist but it's incredibly stupid. The front person is the one that draws the most attention. If you think that the singer of Otep doesn't draw the most attnetion in that band then you're just naive. And furthurmore I've seen all female metal bands. Does that band not have a front person just because there are no males?

Quarta de manhãDraconian, exactly, is a Female Fronted band. And this isn't Fucking Gay tag :))

Segunda de manhãStop using this freaking fucking gay tag. Most of these bands have a male singer. Especially Draconian, which isn't Female Fronted, just backing vocals.

Semana passadaI know what you mean fischziege :P And to DarkRainyDay... I hope you understand what I mean... cause they are pop metal... that's exactly what they are. Catchy chorus, basic repetitive riffs. Catchy melodies. Song structure is very similar to the kind you will find in pop rock. I mean... that's just obvious. They are not pop like Britney Spears, but they are a form of pop music.

Semana passada@HeavenDuff: Epica popish metal? oh well whatever.

fischziege escreveu:
Semana passadai see your point and i agree on some level. some thoughts though: metal is pop. they are selling a variety of images. these images might differ from the ashley simpson pop, but the basic rules apply. the more mainstream metal needs to conform to stay in the competition. i dont have a problem with that. this tag doesnt only apply to your definition and use of the concept behind it. it is usefull to me because i enjoy female voices in metal (the harsher, more agressive kind, not so much the opera divas...). tagging is an organisational tool, not some philosophical statement about postmodern analasys of the art its applied to. not mainly anyways. great to see smbdy with principles though.

HeavenDuff escreveu:
Semana passada... it just wouldn't be selling any shit. Try to imagine Epica without their "front-woman". Impossible right? Yeah, because they support that kind of commercial and wrong idea that there is a "front-man" in a band. So yeah, this tag sucks. Just like anyone who consider a band to be "female fronted"
-
HeavenDuff escreveu:
Semana passadaAs I said before, the tag doesn't suck because it's specifing that there is a female vocalist. But because of the "fronted". There is no such thing as a female "fronted" metal band. Why? Because vocalists are not front-men or front-women. This is a misconception that a lot of people have because of the bad influence of pop music. A lot of people start to believe that the most important part of a band is the vocalist because that's what pop culture tries to sell. Just imagine Ashley Simpsons with Ashley... even the whole band (even if it's a band) is named Ashley Simpsons because "the singer is the most important musician lulz". Which is fucking untrue. But if you go for any underground band... it's totally different. Try to imagine Blood Red Throne without Erlend Caspersen (the bassist). The band just wouldn't be the same. But yeah, when you listen to popish metal like Epica... I can understand why you need a sexy girl to try and sell records... If there was no commercial icon..

Mês passadoI usually use this tag. Preferably because it's easier. Because if you look up a genre, there's usually only 2 or 3 female bands in there. Example: if you look up mathcore. The only female band that's in the top artists is iwrestledabearonce. Therefore, this tag is 'useless,' but easier when you want to look for female fronted bands.

setembro 2009Mindjack's right - tags don't genres make. the female fronted metal's maybe a bit past its use-by date but let's face it ffm used to be pretty unusual and when bands like the gathering came along the vocals made a big impact on the sound. and the tag makes a lot more sense than half the tags on the internet. get over it guys

setembro 2009Lol, stupid - the prime reason for tag existance is to make some library more accessible. Tag is like a public filter - no one cares if this is your "fav", if you have "seen live", etc. So tag obviously is for classification and genre.
