Fri 28 Aug – Outside Lands Festival
Originally I was going here to just see
Q-Tip and
Thievery Corporation. Then a friend asked if I was going. Because of that I can have two new bands I can listen to now which are
Los Campesinos! and
The National. I really loved the lively uptempo lyrics of
Los Campesinos! and the presence of the main singer is wonderful. I'll be sure to keep and ear out for more of their music.
I'm a big fan of
A Tribe Called Quest and
Q-Tip was from that group. Anyway, I loved how he performed one of his good solo songs, "Let's Ride". A nice, subtle way to pay tribute to
J Dilla and his nice production. Then the biggest surprise when Q-Tip called his special music guest to come out,
Phife Dawg. Wouldn't that be wondering if they do a re-union album.
The
Thievery Corporation show was nice. It set me off right after Radio Retaliation. The visuals they had were scenic and kind of quirky. One showed a man bending his body in all sorts of ways. Goes great with the music though.
The 2nd day wasn't that great. I missed
Zion I's performance and though
Raphael Saadiq performed one of his old stuff, I was hoping for more. I didn't stick around after that. And didn't attend the 3rd day. At least I heard two new bands that sounds good to me that I would've never heard of before this music festival. I salvaged some value from that. The weather on friday was excellent as it was on saturday also. Not to hot and not too cold at night. Just perfect to enjoy the festival.
Some of the staff members didn't have a sense of direction or a clue. I asked where I could find a certain stage and after that staff member fumbled, "um, um, ah, ah," I just figured it out myself. Thanks for the help there buddy. And I thought this festival promotes a healthy environment. I was stepping on a lot of littered plastic cups at times walking within a stage audience area.
