Y Kant Tori Read

Y Kant Tori Read is the name of the 1980s synthpop band (and their self-titled debut album), formed by then-unknown singer and songwriter Tori Amos. The band consisted of Tori, singer-pianist Kim Bullard, and future Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum, as well as long-time Amos collaborator guitarist Steve Caton and various studio musicians. Due to the spelling of the band and album name, some critics believed the album was a solo project by a woman named “Tori Read”, wondering “Why can’t Tori read. …do what?” This was compounded by the fact that Amos is billed simply as “Tori” in the liner notes.

TORI. girl, you need to give in and remaster this shit - preferably with the demos for unreleased stuff.

I just found a copy of this on vinyl... AWESOME. It sounds much better on vinyl than it does on CD; however, just to complete my collection--I need to track it down on cassette!

Most interesting. I wonder what her career would have looked like if she had continued on this path...

I almost forgot Tori had her own band before going solo. The dudes in the main picture all look alike, their cheekbones =/

v I agree. I just wish that T didn't ignore this album. The only songs she has performed from this era AT ALL are COYL, Etienne, and Fire on the Side. There are more gems waiting to be performed live...

Cool on Your Island is great, glad she still plays it live. But yes, we should all be thankful it flopped, otherwise we wouldn't have her solo career, which has lasted a lot longer than YKTR would have.
