I would argue that they did pick the right vehicle, because if they didn't, then people wouldn't know about their beliefs. This is obviously NOT the case since it has resulted in both a backlash by trve boys and an interest among people who generally do not like the genre. If they're views were not being spread, this would not exist.

More the former, imo. Filosofem takes on more of a decrepit, vaguely industrialized/dark ambient feel (and the vocals are processed distorted hissing screams rather than raw anguished shrieks), but echoes of Hvis Lyset Tar Oss can definitely be heard in WitTR. Drudkh is good bet if you haven't yet followed the rec above -- try Forgotten Legends and Autumn Aurora. Also: Skagos, Wigrid, Weakling (more epic and warlike than 'desolation of the woods' though), etc.

I know there is a similar artist section above but I was wondering if anyone could suggest a band to check out with a similar sound as wolves(demonic shrieks, a chaotic sound that really makes me feel lost in some forbidden forest) Any suggestions?

@ivan_steamblock: Seems you're not a failtroll but rather simply paying no attention, so go back and read what I said about black metal's misanthropy + WitTR's green 'agenda' making sense together. And then you'll realize it's the right genre. @MakeNine: They get viewed as a sellout band for their marketing, Southern Lord's presentation, having the guy who did the Emperor logo make a shitty new one for them on Black Cascade, etc.

That's the point, though - they're looking to transcend what is generally referred to as black metal, and do something different with the general framework of black metal. The form is the same, while the content differs.
