Mês passadoLast.fm needs a damn "Love this Album" link so because that's a loooooooooot of tracks I'm going to have to do it for individually.

Mês passadoI just realized how the cycle of short songs makes parts of this album sound reminiscent of hardcore.

fevereiro 2011Pure, stripped down rock music. This is the meaning of true Punk. Perhaps the best punk album of all-time and one of the best albums of all-time, for that matter.

janeiro 2011Just got Pink Flag, Chairs Missing and A Bell is a Cup on vinyl. So far, I've only listened to A Bell is a Cup, which was excellent. Easily as good or better than any of the best 80s synthpop albums. And that's strange considering I don't typically care for late 80s synthpop. Can't wait to listen to Pink Flag and Chairs Missing... Now if only I could find 154 for a reasonable price. I might resort to the 180g reissue or, gasp, digital files.

março 2010The album that lays the groundwork for post-punk experimentation. A formalist's wet dream, as carefully and self-consciously sequenced as albums get. Pink Flag is built from two basic building blocks (namely, song fragments and 3- to 4-minute drones), which are arranged in the following structure: drone, 3 or 4 fragments, drone, 3 or 4 fragments, etc. Those limited elements are turned into an examination of rock and roll conventions most punk took for granted, as well as sketches of several possible future histories of rock music after punk's apocalyptic year zero. It is, in effect, an album which surveys the past and future of rock music through the prism of punk and its constituent elements. This is one of the few albums possessing the rigor and beauty of a mathematical proof: it presents us with the definition of punk, proves every theorem that follows from that definition, and then proves that there is nothing more to be proved. A shimmering, self-contained masterwork.
