Wire started in the punk era and were a punk band. I loved their early songs short and very committed to the anti prog ethic.Their later work was excellent too don't listen to Kidney Bingos it is very hard to get out of your head.

funny the last two shouts are about them because "map ref. 41n 93w" and "the 15th" are definitely my favourite wire tracks, though i prefer the mbv cover of "map ref..." and the fischerspooner cover of "the 15th."

Played five songs from new album Object 47 including new favourite "One of Us" also a few tracks from Read and Burn including stand out song the "Afgars of Kodak". Wire play with such energy and volume that you feel your chest is going to explode with excitement Lewis's throbbing bass is still making my legs vibrate 24 hours after the show. Newman still plays, dances, sings like a twenty year old. The fans enjoyed the energy and new-found rythym which is sublety hypnotic, you just dont want them to stop, however they have the art of stopping at just the right point. Three encores were demanded by the packed audience at Whelan's and Wire dutifully responded, playing a further six songs including old favourites Lowdown and Pink Flag.
