    These guys got their start in a nightclub called Mama Mia's, in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. Willie played violin at my wedding in San Miguel, years ago. I met him playing a gig at Mama Mia's, and got friendly with some other musicians (unrelated) - Andean/Peruvian panpipe player, salsa conguero from Vera Cruz...like that. Kind of tossed together a pickup band just for the wedding, held outside in the midst of lilac jacaranda trees and magenta bougainvillea - everything in full blossom - and danced the afternoon and night away to Willie on his violin, kind of the front man for the loose ensemble of great musicians. Lobo played over on the "dinner crowd" side of Mama Mia's, a single act, entertaining the folks who were into their margaritas and fettucine. Amazing to finally hear them together. Lobo would alternate sets with this Mexican group who played some pretty gorgeous, genuine-sounding Andean-style music. Willie, on the other hand, played over on the 'wild side'

    Best music ever. Wish more people knew about these guys. And I wish people actually listened to Rockin' Gypsies--It really does rock with the violin solo at the end. Along with Moorish Reunion. =)
