In April 2005, I dropped my iPod. I'd done it before, but this time it was in the middle of doing something or other... so basically it was the straw that broke the camel's back. The hard drive was damaged, but I did manage to copy most of my tracks to my Mac (I did not have copies of them since until 2 months beforehand, my Mac's hard drive was 10GB while my iPod's was 20GB.) I then reformatted the iPod and it would work as long as I didn't fill it past a certain point, which would cause it to write on the bad blocks and need reformatting again. I installed iPodLinux on it and with the help of a little Cocoa app I wrote to split a dictionary into a whole lot of small text files grouped alphabetically in folders, I used it as a German-English dictionary, among other things. Then eventually it stopped even mounting on my Mac, so I sent it to my friend in Canada, for whom it still works to this day. I bought a fancy new iPod, of course.

Anyway, why am I saying all this? Well, although I recovered most of my music, I lost the statistics of how often each track had been played. Luckily I had extracted such information with an AppleScript not long before, intending to extract other information and eventually set up some web pages showing statistics not unlike the ones I now get for free with lastfm. So, here is a list of the artists on my iPod, how many tracks I had of each one (but only counting the tracks with a nonzero playcount), and how many times I'd listened to the tracks from each one. The file that I'd saved this information in was last modified on 24 April 2005, so I guess it was extracted from iTunes that day or earlier. They're in descending order by play count. The Japanese names are corrupted.

My dream came true recently, they came to my town and performed! I was front row and got Earl to sign my arm! I was ahppy, giddy, fan-girl! I think I was almost happier then when I seen Theory of a Deadman, the only thing I got from there was a guitar pic from Hurst [and almost a drum stick]
