This album features both the best and worst material Weezer has released since Pinkerton. "TGMTEL" is a charming, infectious and over-the-top run through of Weezer's various sounds, the production on the chorus of "Pork & Beans" sounds like classic Blue Album era Weezer, and (if you got the deluxe edition), "Miss Sweeney" is their first new song to sound like a Pinkerton outtake. But then they included songs like "Everybody Get Dangerous," which is, in my opinion, the worst Weezer song EVER (even worse than "Possibilities"). And "Heartsongs," which actually has potential with different lyrics and, most importantly, less corny production. Oh, and let's not forget "The Angel and The One," which tries for "Only In Dreams" but ends up with Creed. Totally bipolar album, but for what it's worth I'm thankful for "Miss Sweeney."

tricubus, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. It may still be Weezer at it's core, but you cannot tell me a song like Everybody Get Dangerous, The Greatest Man That Ever Lived, or Troublemaker have the same emotional value as songs like Across The Sea, Say It Ain't So, or hell, even Perfect Situation. They may be fun, sure, but they are shallow pop songs, similar to The Green Album (which is imo tied with this album for Weezer's worst). And it's not even just the lyrics... the songs on this album are just dull. Look at The Angel and The One, that could be a great song, but it ends up just being boring and repetetive, and lacking a killer chorus. As much as Weezer fans want to pretend, that song does not capture the magic of Only In Dreams, Butterfly, or shit, even Haunt You Every Day. And another thing... no solos on this album? That is just heartbreaking. Solos, no matter how simple they may be, have been a staple of Weezer's sound since the beginning and should always be.

This is an awesome album. Pretty much everything's good, but Troublemaker, Greatest Man, Dreamin', and Angel and the one are masterpieces.

First time listening to this album. Rivers looks like he's dressed for a meeting up on Brokeback Mountain on the cover, lol..

I disagree. This is absolutely Weezer. The problem is that they are happy, that they sing these songs about their happiness and have forsaken the gloom and doom that we demand of them. They mock angsty fans with their contentment. Those who proclaim sadness more meaningful than happiness are presented here with the same Weezer musicality - the same drums, the same chord progressions and the same song structures (plus a few melodramatic chorus reprisals) - but with one key difference: joyful lyrics. Running through a field and sleeping in and eating candy are portrayed with the same musical accompaniment as smoking weed and escaping society and heartbreak. The Red Album makes the Blue and the Green Albums seem equally shallow, because Weezer is a band less concerned with the pursuit of meaning than with having fun and giving people tunes they can sing. That being said, this is by far my least favorite Weezer album.

This album was just not Weezer. Sure the first 3 tracks are great, and Dreamin' and The Angel & The One were great as well. The rest though, while not being terrible songs, were just not "Weezer". I don't see how on Earth "Miss Sweeney" didn't make the cut, that song is incredibely good. Overall this album had the least impact on me out of all the Weezer records to date. I don't care how dumb this sounds, but I miss the guitar solos and the woe-is-me lyrics.

Pork n Beans & Troublemaker rocks, like many of their other hits! Weezer's hit more homeruns with songs than most bands could ever dream of, out there! They definately stood the test of time, and aced it!

Tracks 6 through 9 should have been replaced by Miss Sweeney, Pig, and The Spider. I know Rivers was trying to let the other members shine, but I think if the track list had been (almost) all Rivers like that it would have been something I'd call a successor to the greatness of Blue and Pinkerton.

It took me a while to get into it, but now I think it's the best record they've made since Pinkerton.

First three songs are amazing; first four are fascinating as a quasi-concept record; the rest ranges from great to cringeworthy.

I can see how Blue/Pinkerton enthusiasts can dislike Troublemaker and Everybody Get Dangerous, but I'm shocked how many are scoffing at Angel and the One and Heart Songs.
