Dez 31 2013, 21h42 por xynobiaSpurred on by a discussion of the Year in Metal with my friend Mathromancer, I'm reflecting back on the year in music. Bear with some navel gazing as I stare into the musical mixed bag that was 2013, as well as look forward to what 2014 has in store.
Side A: An Overview
2013 was a year of tempered steel. In spite of some major discoveries in metal, a quick look at my charts reveals some bizarre backpedaling:
The year began with lots of Billy Joel during my annual S.A.D. fest. The Stranger helped me get through the winter doldrums, although it may be a long, long time before I put on 52nd Street again. I don't know how I feel about saying that "Billy Joel got me through a long winter one time", but I might as well feel honest. Thanks, Piano Man.
Speaking of creature comforts: a rekindled affair with some old favorites, nostalgia trip or spiraling upwards? Black Sabbath was my most listened-to artist of 2013 and I haven't even heard the new album. Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, and Green Day all appeared in the Top 30. …

Out 5 2012, 4h23 por mankvillTue 2 Oct – Saint Vitus, Weedeater, Sourvein
Awesome show, although the crowd could've been much better. Lots of people just standing around for most of Vitus' set except for the last two songs, which seems to be kinda typical nowadays, unfortunately. The band sounded great, though - Dave Chandler's tone is straight out of the late 70's and Wino sounds great. He was goofing around with the crowd in between songs and got down to let them sing with him on some parts. And Dave, of course, ran out into the crowd on the last insane solo for Born Too Late, rubbing the strings on random patron's heads. He just threw his guitar on stage at the end, put both fists in the air, and walked to the merch booth while the reverb kept going. So awesome.
It was my fourth time seeing Weedeater, and it was probably the loudest I've ever seen them. They're already playing on blown out amps, but they just proceeded to blow them out even more. Dixie Dave was just as nuts as ever…
Set 9 2012, 10h06 por PsychorizonJust as the summer of 2012 is about to reach its peak, another event is around the corner with one major downer putting its shadow way ahead as the public water supply of the city of Erfurt has been facing a pollution problem for several weeks already. If not for the heat but for personal hygiene one is forced to by an extended fresh water stock, giving just one more point on the Pre-Festival Checklist.
Day one of this years’ Stoned From The Underground Festival starts quite adventures for one part of the Psychorizon staff. If you ever travelled Germany via train you are sure to know why. A distance of about 500 km means changing twice, waiting over a half hour, spending over six hours on the railway and all of this after getting up at about 5am. Well, if this is the only downside to the festival weekend, no need to complain. After another half hour waiting at Erfurt Central Station the other half of Psychorizon’s staff and me cover the final part of the journey by car, where we find the entire location covered in mud. …
