MediaMax Anti-Piracy Software

I got Velvet Revolver's CD, Contraband, the other day, along with a few others. When I got home, I put the CD in my computer to listen to it. Being a last.FM user, I've picked up a habit of always listening to music in my computer.

What happened next I was completely unprepared for. An autorun window popped up, and it had an agreement with "MediaMax" that it wanted me to accept. When I hit cancel, my CD ejected. I also noticed that in the background the CD had started playing, but the song was garbled and choppy.

When I looked up MediaMax to figure out what was going on here, I discovered that the software on the CD causes you to not be able to run the CD as soon as the autoplay starts, because it INSTALLS SOFTWARE onto your computer to mess up the songs. Yes, it installs malicious coding onto your computer without your permission.

So now my computer is screwed up.

I just wanted to write this journal to try to get the word out to other Last.FM users who may buy this CD in the future.

20. Metallica [300, non-mover]: Mostly listen to their.... And Justice for All album, but haven’t listen to them for a while.

19. Velvet Revolver [308, new entry]: Downloaded a couple of their songs, but I have only really listen to Slither, which is fairly good song

18. System of a Down [328, new entry]: Don’t know why I started listening to these guys, but I did. Toxicity is a decent album

17. Slayer [334, -5]: Don’t really listen to these guys anymore, will probably drop off the charts soon.

16. AC/DC [406, -5]: Will probably start listening to them again closer to the concert.

15. R.E.M. [419, +1]: Really enjoy their material and I find their music very relaxing.

14. Dio [452, -4]: Dio is an excellent singer, but I prefer his Heaven and Hell era at the moment.

13. Tenacious D [455, +1]: Downloaded the Tenacious D album and thoroughly enjoyed it, and thus it has gone up in the charts.

11. Halford [508, new entry] Man I love Rob Halfords solo stuff, it is freaking epic. If you are a fan of Judas Priest you HAVE to listen to this stuff. I recommend the Resurrection album, it’s awesome.

10. Dire Straits [520, -2]: One of my favourite non-metal acts, but I haven’t really listen to them in ages.

9. Hibria [542, non-mover]: An excellent speed metal band from Brazil, though I haven’t listened to them in ages. They are decent .

8. Megadeth [749, -2]: I've grown tired of Megadeth. Every now and then I'll listen to one or two of their songs, but overall, I have stopped listening to them.

7. Black Sabbath [767, non-mover]: The gods of metal are one of my favourites. This band is untouchable. Simply one of the greatest bands ever to walk the earth.

6. Alice in Chains [816, new entry]: Alice in Chains is, in my opinion, the best grunge band. Layne Staley haunting vocals and the excellent duets between him and Jerry Cantrell are simply awesome.

5. Motörhead [836, -1]: I didn’t think I listened to Motorhead this much, but apparently I did. I rarely listen to them.

4. Anathema [1,018, +1]: I have grown very fond of their songs, which are very listenable and engaging.

3. Iron Maiden [1,198, non-mover]: Iron Maiden have always been a steady favourite of mine. Ever since seeing their concert, I haven't listened to much of their material.

2. Judas Priest [1,951, non-mover]: My all time favourite band. Simply the greatest band to ever grace the world.

1. Iced Earth [2,203, non-mover]: A very good band. Heavy riffs, dark and intriguing lyrics, adventurous solos and excellent vocals by the one and only Mat Barlow.

Will Black é um músico canadense. Atualmente esta promovendo seu álbum independente chamado Dancing With The Dead. Possui um ótimo trabalho e infelizmente ainda desconhecido pelo público. Abaixo o vídeo com algumas músicas e fotos recentes desse novo projeto.

O estilo dele lembra bastante o atual do Bon Jovi, e em partes Poison e Firehouse. Vale a pena escutar.

Outra informação interessante é a tentativa dele de entrar para o Velvet Revolver. Ele gravou músicas com Slash, no MySpace tem mais informações.
