Velvet Revolver é uma banda norte-americana de hard rock formada em 2002, quando os ex-membros de Guns n’ Roses (Slash, Duff e Matt Sorum) decidiram começar de novo com uma nova banda. Izzy Stradlin (ex-camarada de Slash nas guitarras dos Guns) recusou o convite para ingressar na nova banda e foi chamado para a guitarra base Dave Kushner.
O mais difícil foi encontrar um vocalista. Mas ele acabou por surgir o Scott Weilland, frontman de Stone Temple Pilots, banda que teve seu auge nos anos 90.
Contraband
O primeiro álbum desta super banda, surgiu em 2004 e vendeu 1 milhão de cópias.
Esse álbum não coincidiu com o estatuto de super banda que lhes havia sido atribuido, mas não deixa de ser um bom album que soa pesado e sujo com destaque para “Sucker Train Blues”, “Fall To Pieces”, “Slither” e “Set me free”.
Libertad
Segundo álbum do Velvet Revolver que, ao contrário do primeiro, não tem faixas fazendo lembrar Guns n’ Roses e outras a lembrar Stone Temple Pilots. Este álbum soa muito mais rock n’roll não trazendo nada de novo, mas revelou um estilo único e brilhante.
Este álbum inicialmente ia ser produzido por Rick Rubin mas após algumas divergencias ele saiu amigavelmente e Brendan o’Brian assumiu a produção.
Velvet Revolver com este álbum revela que não é chamado de super banda por acaso, destacando-se as faixas “Let It Roll” que provavelmente foi inspirada na “Roadhouse Blues” dos The Doors, visto que o VR já tinham feito cover dessa música. Destaca-se tambem “The Last Fight”, “Gravedancer”, “She Build Quick Machines”(que é o primeiro single do álbum) e também “Pills, Demons & Etc”.

It's a shame that Lenny Kravitz turned out to be just a rumour. Slash is an interpretative guitarist, so this band need a gifted songwriter more than they need a singer. They need someone like Axl, and Lenny was the best man available.
