U2 goes back to their classic sound. A surprisingly low key album, but full of great tracks. When I Look At The World is probably my favorite on this record.

U2 in 2000 were everything I don't like about them and at the same time, what I want them to be. It's a very sad thing because some of these songs sounds like they really want to be the band they use to be. Sure, it's catchy but this time, they know it and it feels more calculated. The messianic Bono is all over the place on this one, it's almost annoying. 6.5/10

No, it's not their best album. It's rather the worst. Start listen real U2 (The Unforgettable Fire, Rattle And Hum, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, Pop, Zooropa, even HTDAAB) and then we can talk about U2. I don't understand people who knows only 'Beautiful Day'. And then you'll say: "U2 is great band!". No, you're fools. :-) I've got this CD, it's one of their worst albums, but it's still U2. But they are the best for me - they could sing alphabet and I'd buy it. :-)

Generally I'm not big on bands consciously deciding to take the safe path, as U2 did here... and that said, I prefer Pop, but this is a very solid "classicist U2" album.
