  • Grammy Nominations for 2010: An Americana-ish List

    Dez 3 2009, 15h34 por jcshepard

Selected nominations by the Recording Academy. Awards show airs 31 Jan 2010, on CBS.

It's nice to see the Academy recognize Taylor Swift as a "POP" star--Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Good luck to her where she shines. Willie Nelson's American Classic in Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album? Brad Paisley in Best Rock Instrumental Performance? I don't know about that.

Nice to see George Strait with a nod for Twang. Dierks Bentley & Patty Griffin for Beautiful World too. T. Bone Burnett get's a nomination for Production on Elvis Costello's Secret, Profane & Sugargane. And Neko Case has a bid for Best Recording Package--a good reason if you did the download thing to go find the real live CD. Look for more specifics below.

    Some interesting Categories:

The established categories seem a bit more, um, stable.

  • Sleeveface

    Nov 25 2009, 18h33 por RiotGrrrlCS

About 2 years ago I took this foto so that I could use it as my last.fm avatar

I took it with my Fade To Grey: The Best Of Visage LP

It was only last month browsing a bookstore in London, that I found a book called Sleeveface and realized there is a whole movement of people out there taking the same kind of pictures. I bought the book and it inspired me so much that I now want to take sleeveface photos using every vinyl record I have that is suitable for it. So I've decided to start taking the photos and start posting them here. I only have two so far but I'm hoping I'll keep on adding more and more. Also, if anyone who reads this journal has taken any sleeveface pictures, I'd love to see them, so just post the link in the comment box :)

    La Roux - La Roux

    Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman

Meanwhile, you should check out the official sleeveface website and also, if you have facebook, you should search for the Sleeveface facebook group,it has an image gallery of over 3.500 sleeveface pictures worth looking at, there are a lot of talented sleevefacers out there!

Also, here is a good video explaining how to sleeveface:

  • Top 10# oct.09

    Nov 2 2009, 4h02 por D_sick

    Topical Themes::

    1.nintendocore
    2.deathcore
    3.EBM
    4.doom metal
    5.melodic black metal

    Top 10 songs::

    1.Juggernauts
    (Enter Shikari/Common Dreads)

    - As the only impressive song in their new album "common dreads", this song is also the best nintendocore song in history in my opinion. This song is the reason why I can not sleep at 3am and write this shitty article. ps:the band's experimental spirit is far more creative than this song's music video.

    2.Murder
    (HORSE the band/A Natural Death)

-I surfed almost all their albums and singles. This was the only one that impressed me deeply. In addition, the beat and rhythm are so familiar to me when I was a rubbish kid.

    3.Congratulations, I Hate You
(Alesana/Try This With Your Eyes Closed)

-This is that kind of so-called "sweetcore". I will always love Alesana.

    4.Chelsea Smile
    (Bring Me the Horizon/Suicide Season)

-Before that gig in Roundhouse, I was not a fan of them, definitely. Now I know another very sick guy in this planet. There's no point in talking about the band's talent in music. At least, they have a nice bloody taste.

    5.Will You
(L'Âme Immortelle/...in Einer Zukunft Aus Tranen Und Stahl)

-Five years ago, I got addicted to L'Ame Immortelle. Now, when I recover my memory through these old records, I found Tomas Rainerwas far more talented than I expected. And this should be sickest song I could have for months.

    6.Misere Nobis
    (Nyktalgia/Nyktalgia )

-Possibly taken from Nyktalgia's demo, it's a very sad suicidal metal poem. The opening piece of music is very similar to the music from a japanese game's ost. The plot of that game was rather terrible, bloody and tragic, and in the finale, life will never be the same again.

    7.Pilgrim
    (Arch Enemy/Burning Bridges)

-Having got this album in the Stables, I am able to enjoy their rage in full volume. Arch Enemy is the best Metal band for now and forever.

    8.Nuclear Winter
    (Otto Dix/Nuclear Winter)

-Now comes the best gothic make-up and one of the best EBM bands(including L'Âme Immortelle). Moreover, they are from Khabarovsk, a mysterious and epic town in eastern asia. It's amazing!

    9.Fast Car
    (Tracy Chapman/Tracy Chapman)

    10.Like I Do
    (Minipop/A New Hope)

    Top 10 bands::

    1.Otto Dix
    2.L'Âme Immortelle
    3.Arch Enemy
    4.Taylor Swift
    5.Bring Me the Horizon
    6.Caliban
    7.Lostprophets
    8.Placebo
    9..Alcest
    10.Norther
