Listening to this for the first time (on "Russian Dance" now) and enjoying the Hell out of this one, wondering how I avoided it for so long. Like another user commented it sounds like his Trout Mask Replica. In fact, he sounds like Beefheart on one of these songs. I'll definitely be hitting this one up again later this week.

Well this surely is... avant garde. Sounds almost like Trout Mask Replica in places.

I don't remember how I acquired this CD so many years ago ~ not by recommendation for sure. But despite having a large great collection of TW this is the one I go for first. Makes me feel all homey.

Quite an unsung classic in the Waits repertoire. It's hardly an accessible work, but it's perfect after one is accustomed to the other records. As cjkisaragi said, what's not to like with a collaboration between these two. I love how Burroughs seems all over the record despite it feeling primarily a Waits album. The Beats were obviously a huge influence on Waits, perhaps more so Ginsberg in the early days, but as he went through the 80's period and particularly in the 90's and beyond, Waits surreal characters and situations have Burroughs all over them.

Now when I was a boy My daddy sat me on his knee And he told me He told me many things And he said sone There's a lot of things in this world You're gonna have no use for ANd when you get blue And you've lost all your dreams There's nothin' like a campfire And a can of beans

This was my first Tom Waits album. After listening to it, I had to get all of his albums that were at my local music store. Killer work!
