• bilan musical fin 2009

    THE BEST

Florence + The Machine ; Lungs
    Clazziquai Project ; Mucho Punk
    Jamie Cullum ; The Pursuit
2 ans après son dernier dernier VRAI album, Shiina Ringo is back ! God save the Apple ! Long live the Apple !

    THE GOOD

    Chinese Man - The Groove Sessions Volume 2: 2007-2009 ; Hip-hop, trip-hop fort plaisant.
    Eels - Hombre Loco ;
The Heavy - The House That Dirt Built ; Leur premier album faisait partie de mon top en 2008. Splendide.
Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3 ; Ca faisait longtemps que je n'avais pas apprécié un album de rap US ! Merci Jay-Z.

    THE DECEPTION

Muse - The resistance ; Aie aie aie.

    Muse - The Resistance

It was inevitable – Muse has finally gone over the top and through the roof with this one. And it works. Ehh... Undisclosed Desires - RnB much?? I was like... OMG WTF?? I LOVE Muse. They make the best RnB! That sounds almost as absurd as this whole record. But damn, is it fun. Queen plus Timbaland plus Chopin... no one else but Muse would have had the guts to pull off something so pompous and beautiful. Their best. I adore every track, but Guiding Light is my favourite. Exogenesis: Symphony Part 3 is so tender and romantic, you could watch a Keira Knightley period piece while listening to it. Enjoy Matt’s soulful classical piano playing. My only complaint about the album is that there isn’t enough of this good thing in here – too short.

    10/10

  • myChart 12/11/2009

    Dez 12 2009, 6h17 por SilverHawk422

Another new chart, after 5 months haha

    The English Chart

    1. H.A.T.E.U. - Mariah Carey
    * Not so fond of the music video as a whole, but the crying scene towards the end was pretty awesome. Can't wait for Mariah's tour next year!

    2. Undertow - Timbaland Feat. The Fray, Esthero
    * The Fray's Joe King collaborating with one of the greatest music producers? Fresh music~

    3. Vanilla Twilight - Owl City
    * If only this song is as popular as Fireflies... but then it might make it less special haha. The melody is great here.

    4. Telephone - Lady GaGa Feat. Beyoncé
    * Crazy collaboration. Period.

    5. Lost Then Found - Leona Lewis Feat. OneRepublic
    * Wow. A lot of great collaborations I am listening to recently. OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder is a radio-hit machine, and his appearance in this song probably overpowered Leona's angelic voice.

    6. Crawl - Chris Brown
    * Team Rihanna or Team Chris? I don't care. We probably know too little about what actually happened to lay judgements on artists we barely know in real life anyway. The lyrics in this song is pretty good.

    7. Video Phone - Beyoncé
    * I like the original version better than the extended version with Lady GaGa. But then I like the ending of the extended version better. Time to edit them together. I love Beyoncé because she can be mellow, then she flips a coin and become Sasha Fierce. Haha.

    8. Do You Remember - Jay Sean Feat. Sean Paul, Lil Jon
    * Really nice and smooth vocal by Jay Sean. Bought his new album few weeks back and it doesn't disappoint.

    9. Bad Romance - Lady GaGa
    * Because it's playing everywhere now.

    10. Good Life - OneRepublic
    * I've been listening to OneRepublic's new album, "Waking Up", and I don't know which one to pick to put into this chart. Maybe I will choose a different track next week, haha. This is a surprising track by them because it's really fun and optimistic. Other great tracks include "All The Right Moves", "Secrets", "Marching On", and "Everybody Loves Me".

    11. Fearless - Colbie Caillat
    * Slow and emotional. A great song for those who are fearless when it comes to love.

    12. How To Break A Heart - Westlife
    * Yes, Westlife's new album! New album comes new tracks! One of the best tracks of this album is "How To Break A Heart". A great ballad with modern beats.

    13. Already Gone - Kelly Clarkson
    * Another song produced and written by Ryan Tedder. Even though it was criticized to have used the same intro as "Halo", that does not stop Clarkson from entering myChart and the more known chart, Billboard Hot 100 :P

    14. Bigger - Backstreet Boys
    * I am waiting for the day when radio stations give Backstreet Boys a chance again. But I guess that's not gonna happen any time soon. Although this song sounds "outdated" (written by Max Martin, responsible for numerous BSB's signature ballads), it has the true BSB sound.

    15. Where Are You Now - Honor Society
    * Last slot for this chart. Hmmm, I will give it to a lesser-known band, Honor Society. Actually heard this at Hollister, and it caught my ears instantly. Nice lyrics and vocal, definitely recommend it to those who haven't heard it yet. A great band too.

    The Chinese Chart

Umm... not really into Chinese songs right now (because of declination in quality) , so I will just do ten songs instead of the original 15. If you have any great Cantonese/Mandarin song(s) recommendation, leave a comment so I can restore my faith :D

    * Of course it's Joey Yung at the top spot again. Can't wait for her new EP to come out next year! And her Perfect 10 Concert this month! No matter how Cantonese songs suck right now, I will always be faithful to Joey.

Feat. 24 Herbs
    * Sammi's 2009 comeback, for the win. It might be a Christian album, it will probably still attract wide range of music lovers in Hong Kong because 1) it's Sammi, and 2) it's refreshing and new... mixing faith with rap, in Cantonese, definitely interesting.

    * I listened to this song while on my summer trip to Macau/Hong Kong, so it left me a great impression and whenever I listen to this song, it reminds me of the great time I had in Macau. This song has nice lyrics, and a nice duet indeed.

(For the next 7 songs, I am just gonna list them because I am a little unfamiliar with them to leave my opinion)

    * Landy Wen's new album is good too. This song is a great depressing song, almost as good as her previous ballads.

    * Another "comeback" song by Ekin (he releases a new song + compilation album like every 3 years lol). I've been following his career ever since his first debut... and he was indeed the first singer I took notice to (I was probably around 7 or 8). He does have a lot of great songs, but this one doesn't stand out as a GREAT song. We'll see how he will do in the future.

So, that's that for the charts. If you are reading this, I say HI and GOODBYE and COME BACK AGAIN!
  • Timbaland presents Shock Value Vol. 2

Nota 9/10!

    Good evening,

here I go again writing about my last week in music or basically just my stats.

    Most played artists:

3.> Timbaland : well, he's definitely back. I remember his album "Shock Value II" was announced long time ago. And there were lots of rumors about collaborations, for instance a track called "La La" featuring Madonna (which might have been an outtake of the Hard Candy sessions).
Anyway... now several months later it is finally released and shines as a great mix of r'n'b, rock and electronic club sounds (quite like its predecessor). Among the guests are talents like Katy Perry and The Fray, old colleagues like Justin Timberlake and Keri Hilson... and new faces like Miley Cyrus or Daughtry.
The current single "Morning After Dark" was just a litte reworked by adding a part by Nelly Furtado. I'm wondering why this track isn't on the soundtrack of the new Twilight movie ("New Moon"). It definitely would fit the theme. If you're curious take a look at the video.

2.> The Sounds : wow... that band really rocks. Lovely tunes and a strong female voice. I really recommend that you should check out their profile or go to their homepage. They even offer some free downloads.

1.> Lady GaGa : I almost call her the queen of catchiness. "The Fame Monster" (her album) and also her older smash hits are so up-to-date. When I think of pop music in 2009 it's her name that comes to my mind.

    Most played tracks:
(I actually can't make a ranking here, as all songs were often heard)

    > "Bad Romance" by Lady GaGa - and it simply doesn't get boring. Every time I listen to it I still like it.

    > "Beatbox" by The Sounds - my newest favorite track. Powerful and cheery.

    > "Monster" by Lady GaGa - I guess you can call me addicted now. Lines like "he ate my heart" and "mo-mo-mo-monster" are chasing through my head these days. What lovely tunes. ^^

So... I would have liked to conclude with an image of my weekly record covers, but I guess you'll have to wait like last week (when I handed it in later with a comment).
But don't let that stop you from writing me if you have any suggestions or remarks :-)
