The Used tem fome. Vindos de Orem, Utah, a banda com muito suor e dedicação, abusa da substância e fecha suas mentes para criar um estilo de música próprio.
Tudo começou ainda sem Bert McCracken. Quinn, Jeph e Branden já tinham uma banda, onde Jeph, hoje baixista, era o vocalista. Após algum tempo outros vocalistas foram testados, mas nenhum se encaixava com o estilo que o trio procurava. Foi quando alguns de seus amigos perguntaram: “E o Bert? Vocês já tentaram ele?”. Já no primeiro ensaio do que viria a ser a formação atual do The Used, todos sabiam que a procura pelo vocalista havia acabado. Bert, Quinn, Jeph e Branden iniciavam assim uma das maiores bandas dos nossos dias.
O seu primeiro CD foi gravado em LA na casa e estúdio do produtor John Feldmann e no estúdio Olympic Legendários Studios em Londres (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin), contém treze faixas e leva intensidade de quatro caras que deram de tudo para uma coisa: a música. Seu esforço é plausível e numa mistura de ritmos, melodias sublimes, letras emotivas, vocais dinâmicos e riffs estonteantes. As canções satisfazem por si próprias.
“Maybe Memories” é um jogo de alucinações do cantor Bert McCracken após o efeito de drogas. “A Box Full Of Sharp Objects” sauda uma tomada criativa e “On My Own” é uma balada acústica de um coração em pedaços que grita de dor. “Blue and Yellow” captura um movimento sincronizado na amizade de McCracken com o guitarista Quinn Allman. “The Taste Of Ink” é a pura história da banda.

I'm surprised I like them so much. In Love and Death, actually, their lowest album. Oh well. At least I found something I like, whether it's widely accepted or not. Also, from a very diverse person, this band is very, very much Rock with pop influences. It's all very polished, with some other influences I can't put my finger on (As heard on in The Bird and the Worm). But yeah. It's not emo.
