He is still soulful, but too many years of cigs has taken a little of what you hear in this one out of his voice. Like I said he's still the man though.

Oh the joys of being a teenager in Bedfordshire in the early 80s... the smell of hot tarmac and the overwhelming boredom and longing for something better... brings it all back.

Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off- then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can.

His voice on this track is more of an instrument - beautifully done. I remember chilling on patios in the summer with this oozing in the backgorund. Never get tired of this one.

The soul, Paul's great voice, the bass, Mick's keyboard all make this one classic song that really goes straight to my heart. I've loved this song from the first time I heard it and today it still gives me that same wonderful feeling. An all-time favorite for sure!

Best thing about this track is the way, if you listen to Paul Weller at all, that he has taken it from this incarnation and brought it totally around to an awesome Paul Weller song. Gone is the fake hand clap; enter Paul Weller brilliance.
