Ahh, the best new song tonight was easy - 'The Comfort' by Moss. Just a perfect, singalong indiepop song. If you've ever sung along with The Shins, The Format, Phoenix, The Pursuit Of Happiness or Sex Clark Five, I suggest you go and buy their new album. It's ace!



The best old song was 'Sunday' by Sonic Youth. I've probably had it as a best old tune before, I've certainly played it many times DJing. The reason I keep returning to it is that it's a flawless piece of music. I'm immediately hooked by the intro guitar riff. And I remain hooked all the way through, up to and then breaking past of the cathartic noise-out at the end. Magical.

В началото на 90-те, ако става въпрос за понятието скриймо, то трябва да бъде свързано с бандите от западното крайбрежие, които са издавани от DIY лейбъла Gravity Records (http://www.gravityrec.com/) от Сан Диего. Такива групи са Mohinder, Angel Hair, Heroin, Second Story Window, Reach Out и хардкор групи, които също имат в песните си конструкциите на изброените емо банди, но са много по-бързи и по-тежки (faster, louder, harder), такива прото-скриймо групи са Honeywell, Bread and Circuits, Antioch Arrow, ранните Portraits of Past, Swing Kids, Iconoclast, Palatka и др. Повечето от тези групи се свързват с политическия DIY хардкор/пънк лейбъл Ebullition Records (http://ebullition.com/), дело на Кент Маклард, който също списва и зина HeartattaCk. My wife's youngest sister has been asking me for quite some time to sit down at my computer and make her a mix of "good" indie music. She wanted to impress her friends with the knowledge of many different bands. Unfortunately, I have sort of been falling down on the job. I use to keep Last.fm up to date and would write journals and reviews often. But, since going to college, working, and getting married, I've found little time to devote to my scavenger hunts of local record stores, much less keep myself up to date with the goings on of the industry. I am going to attempt to stay more abreast of new music and try to write more. Consider this my "coming out of retirement."
