The Pentangle é uma banda britânica do final dos anos 60. A banda foi formada quando dois violonistas conhecidos do cenário folk-rock, Bert Jansch e John Renbourn recrutaram a vocalista Jacqui McShee, o baixista Denny Thompson (que havia tocado com Nick Drake) e o baterista Terry Cox para formar uma banda que tocasse uma mistura entre jazz, rock, blues e folk. Depois de dois bons álbuns a banda lança seu maior clássico, Basket Light. A banda lançou mais alguns álbuns, porém encerrou atividades em 1973 e acabou voltando apenas em 1980. Nos dias de hoje se tornou Jacqui McShee´s Pentangle, sendo a cantora o único membro da formação original.

I know that they're also known as "The Pentangle", but I'm pretty sure that most of the album covers simply say "Pentangle".

The band's name is just Pentangle without "the"; that's what it says on the 2-disc collection Light Flight, anyway, and also how Wikipedia has the name written.
