Drunk listen-along review of Miasma
Jul 21 2009, 3h25 por dx_xb
I'm drunk, and reviewing the album Miasma.
track 1
50 sec in sorta reminds me of Dethklok, which is a good thing,
track 2
Hmmm, interesting mix of vocal styles here. high pitched vocals kinda like Immortal only a little higher and deeper gutturals, but not too deep.
1:45 nice solo here
2:29 It's pretty catchy I got to admit.
track 3
24 sec in: Okay, the high pitch vocals are getting a little annoying, I think I'd prefer the lower register vocals here.
1:45 another nice solo...I think I'm noticing a pattern though...
2:54 damn catchy
track 4
nice guitar melody to start out with. Almost reminds me of something from the The Minibosses.
1:55 I think this is my favorite song so far.
2:12 nice, sped-up mid-eastern-like guitar melody here.
track 5
17 sec in I'm pretty impressed by the drumming.
2:30 the song switches in directions here. I don't really care for this switch.
3:31 wtf, just wtf. nerdy sample is nerdy.
track 6
1:18 the high pitched vocals work well on this track, better than on track 3 anyway.

Arbitrary 40 Questions
Jun 19 2009, 5h11 por provlear
01. How did you get into #31?
Batter the Drag - This is one of many Flying Blanket Studios artists Kate and I adore. This one she had to convince me of, though. It wasn't instant love.
02. What was the first song you ever heard by #22?
Yann Tiersen Whatever is the first song in Amelie, such a beautiful movie, and what amazing music. The whole CD makes you feel warm and fuzzy while driving.
03. What's your favorite lyric by #41?
The Minibosses Not only do they not sing, but they're really not a great love of mine. They're just one of the first CDs I added, so their longevity helps their numbers.
04. What is your favorite album by #49?
The Huskies only have the one album, The Good Fight
05. How many albums by #13 do you own?
Matchbook Romance - Voices is the only one that I own. I haven't heard any of their other stuff, but I should, since I love Voices so much.
06. What is your favorite song by #50?
MC Frontalot has so many good ones... … -
Current Obsessions
Jan 31 2009, 22h26 por djughurknot
Death in June: Ok, this is ridiculous. I haven't had a discovery consume me whole in I-don't-know-how-long. It's one of those rare bands whose sound I've been searching for, but never realized it until the first listen.
Death Is the Martyr of Beauty is a study in spare, simple, lush awesomeness. I simply cannot get enough of this band. Much like when I first picked up on the more extreme forms of metal, (black, death, and grind) This band plus The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath a Cloud represent a big shift in my listening habits.
ColdWorld: Have I waxed rhapsodic about this basement black metal project from Germany? No? Well. This is the coldest, bleakest, most efficient album I've heard in quite some time. Layered melody, understated, but throbby bass lines, and far-off minimal keys make for a desolate, blizzard-condition collection of songs. During the fall, when I felt like shit most of the time, was experiencing body aches everywhere, all the time, Red Snow… -
2008 is coming to an end... sooooo....
Dez 30 2008, 2h51 por stilldreaming
I don't really know where to start with this, my music preferences went from one extreme to another in a matter of a couple days throughout this year. Metal/Metalcore/DeathMetal/Deathcore(etc...) to Skatepunk/PopPunk/Rock, so the taste in this won't be anything like yours... hopefully.
My Top Eleven Albums of 08:
-Mute: The Raven
If you have heard this album then you know why this is in my top 10. This band makes me want to shoot myself because I will never be as talented as them. The drummer who plays like a maniac also manages to be their lead vocalist... Their guitarists are insane, pulling off sweeps, and other crazy little riffs that you can hardly wrap your mind around... and their bassist can even keep up with all this and finds some time to sing as well. Balls.
Best Songs:
Coming Back,
Lost and Found,
Communication Breakdown
-callahan:Self titled
This album is the perfect mix of everything for me. Nice clean vocal parts that make you want to sing along… -
