  • Forty Questions About Fifty Artists: End of the Decade Edition

    Dez 17 2009, 0h06 por Evil_Doll_Paula

    1. How did you get into 31? (伊藤賢治)
Mana series and Romancing Saga, I believe.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22? (MintJam)
The oldest song of theirs on my iTunes is Rival, so I'm going with that. Sounds about right anyway.

    3. What's your favorite lyric by 29?
It's between KOKIA and Lily Allen... Favorite by KOKIA is perhaps the "Mama, pinku no zou-san dayo!" in ピンクの象. Favorite from Lily Allen, in TocarFriday Night, the line that goes something like "Nice dancing, love, but you should've worn a bra."

    4. What is your favorite album by 49?
Chroma Chrome or Raining Jane. Only have an album from the latter, so I guess it'd be that, Diamond Lane.

    5. How many albums by 13 do you own? (Andreas Vollenweider)
I think 4: White Winds, Book of Roses, Dancing With the Lion, Down to the Moon.

    6. What is your favorite song by 50?
Chroma Chrome or Raining Jane. キキミミ and TocarWyoming Sky, respectively.

    7. Is there a song by 4 that makes you sad? (ALI PROJECT)
Most of them, because they're so damn hard to translate. Srsly though, maybe ナルシス・ノワール.

    8. What is your favorite song by 15? (Swing Out Sister)
As much as I like TocarTouch Me Now and some others, I think it's gotta be TocarTwilight World. First and best.

    9. What is your favorite song by 5? (菅野よう子)
Favorite Yoko Kanno song? Srsly? I guess back in middle school I had an obsession with Wo Qui No Coin. Honestly though, way too many to choose.

    10. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy? (茶太)
I dunno about happy per se, but やまと somehow touches me deeply. Other than that だんご大家族 is a nice cute happy song.

    11. What is your favorite album by 40? (Little Wing)
REVERIE -Sound Sketch 'Kino's Journey'- Only one I got.

    12. What is your favorite song by 10? (新居昭乃)
Tough choice. Top played is オマツリ.

    13. What is a good memory you have involving 33? (Gym Class Heroes)
Seeing them live in concert at school.

    14. What is your favorite song by 37? (Moloko)
Not sure. My favorite Roisin Murphy is Sow Into You, but that's not the same. Maybe TocarForever More.

    15. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy? (葉月ゆら)
Well 輝石 is gorgeous but I dunno about "happy."

    16. How many times have you seen 24 live? (Hiroshi Yamaguchi)
    None. Just a composer, anyway.

    17. What is the first song you ever heard by 23? (Thomas Dolby)
Oh god I could not tell you. The first song I obsessed over was TocarScreen Kiss though.

    18. What is your favorite album by 11? (Modest Mouse)
I haven't heard all of them, but of the two I have I think I like Good News for People Who Love Bad News better.

    19. Who is a favorite member of 1? (HANA Wakusei Music)
Well, seeing as Se-ko Izumi is really the only member, I suppose that'd be her. This is the same answer I had last time I took this quiz.

    20. Have you ever seen 14 live? (Eiya)
    None.

    21. What is a good memory involving 45? (m-flo)
Making fun of the "boom clap boom b-boom clap" at the beginning of Miss You in the school courtyard thing at HS.

    22. What is your favorite song by 16? (Masami Ueda)
The stuff from the Okami OST. No favorite.

    23. What is the first song you ever heard by 47? (Tomohito Nishiura)
The Dark Chronicle opening theme, Endless Adventure.

    24. What is your favourite album by 21? (Laura Veirs)
Somehow I knew this question would come up. Saltbreakers is the first I've heard, and the only one I've listened to exetensively, so that one.

    25. What is your favourite song by 18? (kukui)
透明シェルター, deffo. Also the first one I heard.

    26. What is the first song you ever heard by 38?
Iain Ballamy or 光田康典. So, Sock Puppets / Flyover, being the opening to Mirrormask, and Time's Scar, probably.

    27. What is your favourite lyric by 3? (下村陽子)
    No lyrics, it's instrumental.

    28. What is your favourite song by 2? (Clouds)
Favorite Clouds song, really? Maybe Wave. 4 pm is also good, and like, a ton of other songs. (Australian indie Clouds)

    29. What was the first song you ever heard by 32? (Mika Matsuura)
    I'll say Cursed Shinshu Field.

    30. What is your favorite song by 8? (Värttinä)
Stop asking me these things! Most of the songs on Miero I think.

    31. How many times have you seen 17 live? (Gnarls Barkley)
    None.

    32. Is there a song by 44 that makes you happy? (hicalculator)
Life is Game or Fight it out.

    33. What is you favourite album by 12? (Yo Gabba Gabba!)
All the song collections suck actually. My own rips are my favorite album.

    34. What is the worst song by 46? (Awesome New Republic)
Their songs that aren't the first few of Rational Geographic Vol. 1.

    35. What was the first song you ever heard by 34? (OLIVIA)
    Bliss Forest.

    36. What is you favourite album by 42?
Rei Kondoh, Hiroshi Ebihara, or 増田俊郎. Okami OST or Naruto OST.

    37. How many times have you seen 39 live?
Iain Ballamy or 光田康典. None for both.

    38. What is your favourite album by 36? (Panic at the Disco)
    Pretty. Odd.

    39. What was the first song you ever heard by 28? (The Manhattan Transfer)
I'm going with TocarBlue Serenade or TocarThe Offbeat of Avenues.

    40. What is you favourite album by 7? (Sanagi)
I like both of 'em equal. Sailing The Seven Seas though, maybe.

  • Has online shopping ruined our music experience?

    Mai 9 2007, 18h57 por saral-k

Through people not being very creative and me throwing a birthday party, I found myself with £50 (~$100) worth of gift vouchers for Virgin Megastores. I also had a massive craving to buy something by Manhattan Transfer, so I went into Virgin and started looking under M, but I couldn't find anything.

Then I went for a little walk around the shop, perusing the shop's delights, when I saw ( ), and I decided to buy it, on the way to the checkout, I also saw Musique Vol 1 (1993 - 2005) and bought that too.

That is when I realised the problem with buying stuff on iTunes, or eMusic - buying music is no longer an experience. If you decide to buy the new Zoot Woman album, you fire up iTunes, and search for Bright Eyes, download it and listen to it, end of experience.

If you go to a music store to buy the album, you walk into the store, walk over to the music section, and get to the Z section, on the way, you see the Bright Eyes section, and take a quick look, then you flick through the selection, realise you don't have Digital Ash in a Digital Urn; so you pick that up, infact you pick up a couple more albums. Some you may have only heard of on the off reccomendation from a friend or CD of a band you like but haven't heard.

The point is, when I go to a real music store, I come out with a lot more than I planned. Wheras when I go to an online music store, I only get exactly what I planned.

    Thoughts?

  • Reverent mood

    Fev 16 2007, 14h02 por mergicuviitura

This is because there's so much music around. I feel like shutting up for a while and just listening.

I've been stacking a lot of new and old faces in my computer via torrents. I'm back on the active listening track. Back in the collector's groove.
And there's a certain pride associated with shaking hands and bobbing heads with old and new, forgotten and underground.
Hello, hello, do come in. I've always got a kettle on.
I wonder at times, given the diversity of streams pouring past my ears, whether I am a music whore or not.
After all, it's rather hard to mix Tricky and beethoven,Xela and Manhattan Transfer, Aphex Twin and Bob Dylan.,silly female vocalists and the oh-so-insightful Anticon artists, nursery rhymes and war anthems.
Somehow, I am very proud of this discombobulated lot, because it was never about becoming a musical snob that I chose to delve into the roster of artists my last fm features. The deal with music is very plain: I like it. I love it. I can't live without it. And there can never be other reasons for me strapping my ear to it.

I don't really give a flying flute whether the styles go together, whether this artist is in prison, whether he's flat-out broke [cheers Leonard Cohen], whether it's fashionable to listen to or not, whether they're dead or alive.
I'm here to give it all a go. [Ok, maybe several goes].
I'll know I've grown old when I cease giving arguments for my choices and grow a beard.

Fine, I'm not a musical whore, but I'm a trysexual for sure.

Another useless post. Mindless Ramblinga is my middle name. :P

  • guess the lyrics... u no the deal

    Set 6 2006, 0h32 por clemens1986

Well here's another lyrics game. I made it quite easy though (so that even I would have a chance to solve it) I even made / where there are pauses...

    1. At home there are seventeen-year-old boys and their idea of fun / is being in a gang called the disciples high on crack 'n totin a machine gun

    2. Hang ups, let downs / bad breaks, set backs / natural fact is / I can't pay my taxes

    3. Ain't i clean, bad machine, super cool, super mean

    4. I've seen the good side of bad and the downside of up and everything between

    5. And it seriously bothers me / that you may just not ever see / the way I feel about you

    6. I ain't no psychiatrist, I ain't no doctor with degree

    7. I ain't gonna go blind / for the light which is reflected

    8. Now she can't / be that warm / with the wind / in her arms

    9. We must engage / and rearrange / and turn this planet back to one

    10. I stay, dressed, to impress / spark these bitches interest / sex is all I expect

    11. Back and forth through my mind / behind a cigarette
