I'm listening to Under The Fog on Spotify and I've just realised that the album is different to what I have. Prefer the songs I have if I'm honest, although there isn't too much difference. I think the alternative version of 'We Ain't Never Done' is miles better, though.

Refuted, but I imagine it's a mute point.

At least Itch turns up to the local gigs and puts back into the scene.

Even if he is a 'rich kid' (which I find dubious to be honest), so what? People said the same about Joe Strummer, didn't stop The Clash being a great band. This is what I hate about the British punk scene, you've got to be some peniless street warrior with a shit upbringing or else cynical posers will try and bring you down your whole career.

Itch doesn't care about money, he doesn't need to. He's a rich kid (don't believe the PR job he's done on himself). What he does care about is fame.

"Oh, and ofcourse they want to make money. Do you actually think that any band starts up without even considering the financial benefits?" That's fine, I have no problem with that. But they don't need to front like they don't care about money, Itch needs to be reminded that he is not Penny Rimbaud.

As I said, I have problem with their new music. I don't think it's better or worse than their old music, I don't care whether they're punk or not, my opinions have nothing to do with their music but their integrity. Singing "Let's hang the landlord" and "Chimp in a 3 piece suit" and having adverts on TV... That makes it harder for artists that actually live what they sing about when they talk about anarchy instead of having a vague rebel message to try and hook in angsty 15 year olds.

That arguement was brought up a lot with RATM, they just said that its no good preaching to the converted. I'm sure the King Blues, Anti-Flag etc would feel signing to a major and being labelled 'sell-outs' by some is a small price to pay if their message reaches a wider audience.

Well to be fair, it depends on the circumstances. Personally, I'd not take a pay rise if it meant that I had to do or say something that I thought was unfair or against my own beliefs. Which to be fair, is exactly why people hold that against bands that spoke out against majors. In regards to more people knowing them, that is pretty cool, but at the same time it does kind of annoy me that people with no interest in anarchism, etc. are quoting The Streets Are Ours without knowing what they're saying haha. But on the hypocrite note, I agree totally.

Yep that's it, maybe they are hypocrites but everyone's a hypocrite in some aspect of life. I bet every person who bashes bands for 'selling out' would take a pay rise in their careers if offered one. Personally I think it's quite good that the King Blues signed to a major cos now some of my friends know and like them whereas before it was just me, sorry true punx.

Oh totally, aye. I mean I can't really argue that they King Blues didn't 'sell out', but realisticaly that's not gonna make me stop listening to them. Even on a major label they're still able to do a good job, even if it does smell a bit of hypocrisy. And like you said, there are still bands who never deserved any respect in the first place and my eyes are set on them before the King Blues or Against Me! or Anti-Flag (etc.; etc.)

Oh yeah totally, I can see why people might be annoyed and to an extent I was too at first, but then in my career i'm gonna go for promotions and stuff so I can forgive bands doing the same. And there are so many bands out there more deserving of our cynicism than the King Blues, let's give em the benefit of the doubt and go bash Metro Station instead.

That's kind of simplifying the argument though, isn't it? It's annoying when people refuse to listen to bands or claim to never have liked them just because they hit the mainstream, but when bands denounce major labels and the music industry before signing to Universal, you have to be able to understand where people are coming from.

if you have been to a King Blues show you will know that they are undeniably punk. Until you've seen these guys live you really can't say anything. [3]
