This album represents a significant step away from the 80s music once infecting The Innocence Mission—a step, I’m sure we all agree, is in the right direction. At this point, The Innocence Mission has not yet entered into its prime, but many songs carry with them hints of brilliance—a brilliance the band is able to hone in its later albums. Many of the songs on this album are offensively simplistic like Bright as Yellow and Go—not that I am an antiminimalist. Glow suffers from a juvenile and undeveloped feel with most of the songs reaping disappointment. There are a few exceptions, however. I oscillated between two songs when selecting the best song on the album. I initially thought it was Brave, but after listening to Our Harry a few more times I realized that Our Harry was something I could listen to numerous times without it getting stale. Thus Our Harry is my top pick, with Brave close behind. Yet, I definitely don’t think this album should make anyone’s top 10 desert island list.
