ah, i forgot how much i love these guys! i loved betrayal, and wasn't sure about wounds when i first got it. but on subsequent relistens, its amazing! i didn;t even realise they had a newer ep out until today, and i will definately be geting hold of that i think! i don't know what it is about them, there's just something very addictive, the way the guitars weave around each other, they play very nice chord patterns, intricate and inventive. the production on the ep sounds fun/ a lot rawer and underpolished, which is nice.

Most recent release Wounds is an enjoyable listen taking on more entrancing melodic black metal elements. I can't say I dig the old stuff too much nearly as much though.

I love how the Metal elitists rip this band apart, it's quite funny. I think The Funeral Pyre are an absolutely brilliant band and it annoys me the people who think good Black Metal cannot come from anywhere but European regions. In saying that though, Europe/Scandinavia does have (on the whole) a much more quality and less derivative Metal scene on the whole, but America pulls out some gems every now and then...The Funeral Pyre being one of them.
