Crystalised by The xx
-Yeah, these guys are making big waves underground and are fucking huge here on last.fm, doesn't mean they can't write a few decent tunes. Mixing smooth loungey pop with Young Marble Giants-esque minimalism. This song is very noir-like and serves the purpose of being a mellow, catchy song.
In the Flowers by Animal Collective
-This song already feels like I'm floating through a magical swamp with psychedelic swirls, but then all of a sudden, 2:31, woah. Sonic rape and heavy bass beats. The harmonizing of "to hold you in time" basically seals the deal of this being the most epic song of 2009.
What Would I Want? Sky by Animal Collective
-We all thought Brothersport was the jam of a lifetime until this hit us in the face. Honestly, the first half sounds like an musical orgasm thrown in to a washing machine. It's pretty cool how the Grateful Dead dug this song enough to clear the sampling of "Unbroken Chain" ("sky, woah I walk" is a homophone of "sky, what would i want")
Laboratories of the Invisible World (Rollerskating the Cosmic Palmistric Postborder) by maudlin of the Well
-the only "prog rock" worth listening to in the last few years. The guitar solo is the best I've heard in a long time too.
Aquarius Sabotage by The Flaming Lips
-all the indie schmindies of this website are going to bust on me for picking this song over the rest of the album. i don't know why, but the heavy Lightning Bolt-esque drumming mixed with a lush pool of psychedelic sounds just feels so great to my ears. i really liked this after being bored of their last 2 albums.
space mountain by Fuck Buttons
-Heavy, pulsing beats kind of like Ribs Out on their first LP. Although what separates Tarot Sport from Street Horrrsing is the rhythm that stays throughout the former. Add a dreamy noise crescendo and bam, an addicting song.
冒険の彩り by World's End Girlfriend
-Serves the purpose of being a cutesy song for a soundtrack. I like it a lot, without any explanation really.
Close chorus by A Sunny Day in Glasgow
-shit, why are all the catchy singles anymore just dance-y dream pop songs? really, this song sounds like a Slowdive rip off with a dance beat under it, which is not a bad thing at all.
bad trolling and hipster praise appreciated below.
