Macie już dość świątecznej muzyki? Dżinglebelsów, kristmasów, rudolfów reniferów i santa klausów?
    Pewnie tak!
Jednak nawet i taka muzyka może być ciekawa... Oto dowód! 26 piosenek z dominującym motywem świątecznym w nieco innym niż zazwyczaj wydaniu... Wkońcu "... Christmas is the most psyhodelic time of year.."

    1. The Electric Prunes - TocarJingle Bells

    2. From First to Last - Christmassacre

    3. Trans-Siberian Orchestra - A Mad Russian's Christmas

    4. Austrian Death Machine - Jingle Bells

    5. Skindred - Jungle Bells

6.Eels - Everything's Gonna Be Cool This Christmas

    7. Amped - We Three Kings

    8. Severe - Oi To The World

    9. Los Gatos Locos - Father Christmas

    10. Mojo Nixon - Christmas Christmas

    11. Bamboula - I'm Getting Pissed For Christmas

    12. Konock Gallery West - Gunslingin' Santa

    13. Bob Dylan - Must Be Santa

    14. Mike Oldfield - TocarIn Dulci Jubilo

    15. Jethro Tull - Ring Out Solstice Bells

    16. The Jigsaw Seen - God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen

    17. R.E.M. - Christmas Griping

    18. Olivia Brash - Silent Night

    19. Geolyn - Deck The Halls

    20. Everclear - TocarSanta Baby

    21. Bob Dylan - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

    22. Bob Seger and the Last Heard - TocarSock It To Me Santa

    23. Louis Armstrong - 'Zat You, Santa Claus

    24. The Brian Setzer Orchestr - Santa Drives A Hot Rod

    25. Clarence Carter - TocarBack Door Santa

    26. Tom Jones & Cerys Matthews - Baby, It's Cold Outside

PS. Właściwie dwie płyty z muzyką świąteczną zwróciły moją uwagę w tym roku.
Pierwsza to folk-rockowa płyta Boba Dylana "Christmas In The Heart". Niesamowicie zaśpiewany ze świetnym klimatem...
Druga yo płyta zupełnie inna, punkowa, nagrana przez pewnego brytyjczyka i dostępna za free na stronie: http://www.punk-christmas.co.uk/index.html.

  • [101] The Electric Prunes – I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night) (1967)

    Mar 11 2009, 23h24 por Llorenza

The Electric Prunes – I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)

Sold, sold, sold to the highest bidder!
    Going... going... going... gone!

This song (TocarSold To The Highest Bidder) has been in my head for the last couple of days. Don't listen to other people who tell you that TocarI Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night) is The Electric Prunes their biggest hit and the best song on the album, because they're wrong. The reason (and a very good one) you should listen to this album is TocarSold To The Highest Bidder. Of course I am always right.

So, this album... me like! It's got a lot of variation, and sure, sometimes you don't know if The Electric Prunes are serious or not (of course they're not) and sure, the best songs on this album aren't written by themselves: they needed two woman to do it for them. As I can only encourage this fact, I do not mind it that much, especially if Tucker & Mantz wrote songs like TocarI Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night), Are You Lovin' Me More (But Enjoying It Less), TocarSold To The Highest Bidder and TocarGet Me To The World On Time.

Back to the variation: The Electric Prunes change with ease from pure psychedelic sounds to softer sweeter songs to childish songs. There's TocarI Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night) that has some psychedelic sounds (please, can someone tell me how they make that typical guitar sound, I just love it), there's TocarOnie that resembles (yesyes) The Everly Brothers or even John Travolta's Sandy (from Grease), Are You Lovin' Me More (and enjoying it less) is a slower version of The Kaiser Chief's 'Everyday I Love You Less And Less', TocarSold To The Highest Bidder is a mixture of The Clash and The Dropkick Murphys (but a lot better than The Dropkick Murphys) and TocarLuvin' is pure rock'n'roll.

Maybe this is a strange record just because of this constant change, but it makes it a very enjoyable record to listen to... what more do you need? Some songs (the ones noted before) are fabulous and I cannot help but loving this album.

So, excuse me now, I have a song to sing...:
Sold, sold, sold to the highest bidder!
    Going... going... going... gone!

(Fantastisch: TocarI Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night), Are You Lovin' Me More (But Enjoying It Less), TocarSold To The Highest Bidder, TocarGet Me To The World On Time, TocarLuvin')

    Going... going... going...
    gone!

  • Mystical Journey Through Last.fm

    Jul 23 2008, 13h36 por squigglycircle

    This meme from joetattie's journal.

The point is to start at your #1 Overall Top Artist, don't include in the list, and then follow the similar artists steps to find out where you went 50 steps down the line. Use the 1st similar artist unless it was already on your list, if it was, use the second, if that was the third....You get the point... No repetition or you'd just go in circles.

    1. Roger Waters
    2. David Gilmour
    3. Pink Floyd (my initial starting point, after skipping Waters)
    4. Richard Wright (some more skipping)
    5. Nick Mason
    6. Syd Barrett (we're all through band members now - I skipped Rick Wright, too)
    7. Love
    8. 13th Floor Elevators
    9. The Electric Prunes
    10. The Blues Magoos
    11. The Seeds
    12. The Standells
    13. The Knickerbockers (I wonder how many The Xs we're going to go through)
    14. The Leaves
    15. The Barbarians (...and all from the 60s)
    16. The Strangeloves
    17. The Vagrants
    18. The Magicians
    19. The Magic Mushrooms
    20. The Third Rail (11 of them)
    21. The Del-Vetts (Return of The Xs)
    22. Kenny & The Kasuals
    23. The Sparkles
    24. The Elastik Band
    25. The Gants
    26. The Gestures
    27. The Daily Flash
    28. Lyme & Cybelle
    29. The Humane Society
    30. The Rare Breed
    31. The Rationals
    32. Unrelated Segments (a picture of their album cover shows a "the" - sounds far more interesting without it)
    33. The Lyrics (and we're still in the 60s)
    34. Mouse & the Traps (here I needed to click on "see all" to get an artist that wasn't already on the list)
    35. The Brogues (...and got nowhere - even the modern Brogues confess to playing "60’s influenced indie-pop")
    36. The Brigands
    37. Richard & the Young Lions
    38. Clefs of Lavender Hill
    39. The Rumors
    40. Fenwyck
    41. Gonn
    42. The Dovers
    43. The Five Americans
    44. The Merry-Go-Round (that's what it's like)
    45. Max Frost & the Troopers
    46. Michael & The Messengers (another "see all" entry)
    47. The Mojo Men
    48. The Chocolate Watch Band (at least this one I've heard of, though only as referenced in a Rolling Stones bio)
    49. The Music Machine
    50. The Count Five

So. We start with a band that changed the face of music, who produced nothing but a long string of excellent albums through the late 60s and all of the 70s - and some more in the 80s and 90s - and are, quite simply, one of the greatest bands ever to have picked up their instruments. As expected, we go through the various band members, and with Syd Barrett we are simply forced to move on.

Then we skip over to the other side of the Atlantic for Arthur Lee's seminal psychedelic outfit, Love. 13th Floor Elevators and The Electric Prunes still keep us in the psychedelic vein, but then it all goes downhill from there. An endless string of 60s unknowns and no-hit-wonders from the Midwest and California riddle the similar artist lists.

There are very few bands on the list after 13th Floor Elevators whose name is not either The Something(s) or Someone and the Somethings. Notable exceptions are Fenwyck and Gonn - the latter of which has a nice bit of garage lore on the artist bio page. Of all of them, I know only The Seeds (one of their albums was available for download somewhere) and The Chocolate Watchband.

What's to be learned from all this? That Pink Floyd can only be compared to itself, and 60s garage rock bands are pretty much all the same.

Note: it was very close to having diverged to King Crimson, which would have probably taken things somewhere else entirely.
