Saw these old farts at Konocti resort, California in Summer 08'. Being a "Doobie virgin" i was quite surprised as to how well they got the crowd going. Well done boys.......but you came a distant second to that wonderful smell of gange which drifted through the air all night. Shame i had to come home to the UK !!!!!!!

@ Jyroflux, what's so bad about Black Water? For me, I never want to hear Takin' It To The Streets ever again.

Scissor Sisters....doobie brothers? I fail to make the connection. No offense. I'm seeing them for the second time this summer. Funny, my dad went to their Farewell concert in 1982, the year I was born.

A brilliant band. I adore Listen To The Music and Long Train Running. I also love Free Ride. You can clearly hear how this band influences the sound of a band like the Scissor Sister, nowadays.

Armadillo Death Chant on the Long Train Running box set really rocks. Their first album is criminally underrated - perhaps more so than any other artist's debut.

Great vocals, really melodic songs, great hooks. I knew they were special right from Nobody off 1st album. T. Johnston may have penned the main rockers, but Pat Simmons' tunes have a finesse and strength often missed. Clear As The Driven Snow, I Cheat The Hangman and Blackwater are stand-out tunes. M. McDonald helped them sell more albums but he broke their rock sound.Their reunion material rox!

I believe that one test of a good song is that it can be done in different styles and still shine out. This is certinaly true of Long Train Running. See the snippet of it played in a country style, and working wonderfully well, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI4f0pW9L8A
