  • Enough With the Holiday Tunes, Already!

    Dez 28 2008, 14h29 por tadmaster

I can only take so much. You're probably the same way. For several days AFTER Christmas, you can still be assaulted with the holiday-themed music & muzak everywhere you go. Well, as far as I'm concerned, it's after Christmas, so Santa Claus can get the #%*&@! back out of town!

For those who would like some ammunition for firing back, I give you this list. There are three four basic types of songs on here:
    1. Irreverent parodies
    2. "Alternate" holidays
    3. Neglected covers that should be played instead of the overplayed versions
    4. Covers so cheesy that the listener might suffer a physical blockage

I leave it to you to decide which tunes belong in which categories. So, sit back, toss back the "hair of the nog", and spread the word to the muzak programmers: it's time to pack the holiday box up for another year. (And don't be so eager to break it out again next October.)

  • to kill boredom: more surveys

    Nov 6 2008, 11h53 por ecchipiro

Very bored, so I took some surveys. Again.

Put your music player on shuffle....use the song titles as your answers

    (21123 songs in WinAmp)

    ----
    Story of your life...
    ----

What should they have played when you were born?:
    "Spectral Emotions" by Spectral Emotions

Okay, well, looking at all the many different genres of music I like, that kind of makes sense.

What song will people play at your funeral?:
"Ze Big Divide (Parham & Dominic Plaza Remix)" by Seyton vs. Tyler Michaud

Oh, I'd be happy, cause this is one of alltime fav tunes!

What song will you play at your wedding?:
"Behold the passionate ways of nature" by Hagalaz' Runedance

Well, considering I do not plan on marrying at all; this is still a very lovely song, and I think it would work very well for a Celtic themed wedding.

What song will you play at your 50th birthday party?:
    "ResurRection" by PPK

    ROFL!

    ----
If you get your dream life...
    ----

What song will you dance to when you win the lottery?:
"Walk Of Notes (The Digital Blonde Remix)" by Beetseekers

    Well, it certainly IS uplifting.

What song will you play when you get your dream job?:
    "Europe in Flames" by Triarii

. . . *no comment* !!! Out of 21123 songs you pick THIS!??!?! This is so not politically correct. D:

What song will you play when you discover your own island?:
"Injected With A Poison" by Praga Khan

    LOL?!

What song will you play when you rule the world?:
"The War Room" by Trevor Morris

    WinAmp ... !!!

What song will you play when you're in heaven?:
    "Beautiful inside" by Zolex

Doubt I'll rise to heaven. It's Valhalla for me.

    ----
    What song makes you feel....
    ----

    Happy:
    "Contra stomp!" by m2i

Yeah, it has a cute tune.

    Sad:
    "Atrax" by Exit EEE

    Well, actually not.

    Sexy:
"Chapter III: Awaking The Centuries" by Haggard

In a Teutonic way, maybe, with a side trip to Baroque?!

    Angry:

    Actually, no. It soothes me.

    Jealous:
    "Sognariket Sine Krigarar" by Windir

Well, yeah, harsh bassdrums do make me bouncy which will lead to make me flirty.

    Evil:
    "Southampton" by James Horner

Well, okay, if I remember all the idiots crying like babies in the movie, mocking them in my mind, then yes.

    Innocent:
"Let me know" by Roisin Murphy

    Beautiful:
"Beyond The Beyond" by Suns of Arqa

What song makes you feel like you're an armadillo?:

    I own no emo music.

What song makes you feel like a donut?:
    "Universal Nation 2002" by Push

    Your death:
    "Shalim Dhar" by Rajna

    Hm ... ?

    Your attitude towards life:
    "Fatherland" by Alle Sagen Ja

Well, Martial Industrial? --- Yeah, life is full of battles to be fought. Kind of even the theme of the lyrics.

  • Scrobble #18,000

    Set 17 2008, 15h52 por kevnev

I have to admit, I don't tire of the term "scrobble" - it sounds like something Ploobis and Scred would eat in the stagnant northlands of Gorch (Muppets on SNL in 1975). Anyhow, there are a few thousand missing since the last, mostly because every time I tried to note which track hit on an even thousand there would be something wrong with the track counter. The track this time is Danny Boy from Tears of Stone. Not one of my favorite albums, either in general, or by The Chieftains. Too depressing. I do like Diana Krall's voice, though. I recently heard her recording The Girl In The Other Room and really enjoy it. Oh well, the risk I run with iTunes on shuffle all the time.

  • My 8000th scrobble - Qualche Splendido Giorno (Some brilliant day)

    Ago 24 2008, 20h46 por Dufsa

    Ciao everybody,

I have now reached my 8th thousand of scrobbles here at Last.fm. Since my Scrobbler finally accepted my iPod, it's been a little bit faster to reach 1000 scrobbles.

This week I've been working on a present for my sister-in-law Nadia who had a birthday party yesterday. She's into languages, and recently she's discovered Italian, just like me. I've had a couple of Italian boyfriends and I speak the language quite well nowadays, so I decided to give Nadia a starting kit of my old course books, Amarelli liquorice and a CD.

A couple of months ago, I was travelling together with my family to the south of Sweden, where a family party was taking place. In the car, Nadia brought a CD with some Italian music, inspired by a TV show in Sweden about Italian cooking. I wasn't quite pleased with the CD (too commercial and silly for my taste). I wanted to introduce her to some real good italian music. So I spent a couple of nights to find and compile an album of 18 songs that show the true Italian spirit (uhm, or something). My friend Daeniele helped me to pick the songs, and in the end the CD looked like this:

    1. Fabrizio De André – Dormono sulla collina
    2. Vasco Rossi – TocarAlbachiara
    3. Francesco De Gregori – TocarGiorno di pioggia
    4. Fiordaliso – TocarNon Voglio Mica La Luna
    5. Subsonica – TocarIncantevole
    6. Elio e le Storie Tese - TocarFossi figo
    7. Francesco de Gregori – TocarLa donna cannone
    8. Fabrizio de André – Volta la carta
    9. Franco Battiato – TocarL'era del cinghiale bianco
    10. Lucio Battisti – Io vorrei… non vorrei… ma se vuoi
    11. Gianna Nannini – TocarMi Fai Incazzare
    12. Elio e le Storie Tese – TocarServi della gleba
    13. Mia Martini – TocarPiccolo Uomo
    14. Afterhours – TocarNon È Per Sempre
    15. Stadio – Acqua e sapone
    16. Donatella Rettore – Kobra
    17. Modena City Ramblers – Viva la Vida
    18. Mia Martini – Rapsodia

While searching for a song from the political Irish-Italian band Modena City Ramblers, I found a song which became my 8000th scrobble:

    TocarQualche splendido giorno

As you see, I chose another song in the end, but the band is worth checking out if you like folk-like political music with Celtic tradition. Sort of like an Italian bastard son of The Chieftains.

    Arrivederci.

  • My Confession

    Ago 16 2008, 7h26 por marc31en

So that's my first blog @lastfm, two weeks after entering the community. I simply can say, I already do love it. Great idea, great music, makes my day.

About me, if you like: My name is Marc, I am SInger of the crossover wave rock, indie band Celtic Crypt, living in the small German town Ennepetal, during daylight working with audio books, during nihttime making and listening to music. And no, that's not boring at all.

My musical taste can be called weird at best, a strange mixture of Fischer Z, New Model Army, The Men They Couln't Hang, Sunrise Avenue, The Mission, Robbie Williams, Muse, Queensryche, Brad Paisley (have you ever seen the video of »Whiskey Lullaby«? It really made me cry, first time I watched it on CMT), hm, what about Fields of the Nephilim, Eminem, The Chieftains, 30 Seconds to Mars, My Chemical Romance and then of course Falco and, yes, I must confess, Chris de Burgh - espescially the elder songs of the late 1970ies and 1980ies. You see, there is absolutely no thread in my music. Finally it has to be »good stuff« in my eyes.

But you can chase me away with jazz, soul and funk, and please give me back the inspiring 1980ies :-) Yeah, an old man is what I became, eh?

So thanks for popping in, I'll be back in some time, if you like.

    Cheers,
    Marc
