O The Cars foi a banda de New Wave de maior sucesso no final dos anos 70, conquistaram vários álbuns de platina e emplacaram diversos singles entre os top 40. Ela foi formada em Boston em 1976 com Ric Ocasek na guitarra e vocais, Ben Orr no baixo e vocais, Greg Hawkes nos teclados, Elliot Easton na guitarra e David Robinson na batera. Os seus maiores sucessos nos EUA foram My Best Friend’s Girl e Just What I Needed. No Brasil eles fizeram sucesso com as músicas do álbum Heartbeat City(1984), entre elas You Might Think, Magic, Hello Again e Drive. O que ajudou além do som maneiro foram os video-clips bem produzidos que se tornaram carros-chefe da MTV na época.

The first 4 albums are fucking amazing. Everything after that though is pretty lackluster, even Heartbreak City.

So this band, Sans Harbour, came to Stratford to practice their road show. The Cars first album had been released just a few days earlier and I had bought it immediately - it was the first fresh music to hit the airwaves in years. Sans Harbour played that album note for note - we got to hear the Cars on the road before hardly anyone knew they even existed.

Cold and thin, shiny and hypnotic, it's what they do best--rock and roll that is definitely pop without a hint of cuteness. Which means that for them "alienation is the craze" may be a meaningful statement after all.

No way are the cars the best american band.. van halen doors and aerosmith way better,, i like the cars.. but come on they are not the best usa band .. no way lol.. heck even supertramp might be better then the cars and what about the great ted nugent and kiss .. lol..
