Essa banda de indie rock já teve várias formações desde o seu início, em 1991. as irmãs sachiko (vocal e bateria) e yoshiko ‘ronnie’ fujiyama (vocal e guitarra) dão as cartas e, atualmente, é um trio formado com yoshiko yamaguchi (vocal e baixo). misturando rock dos anos 50, 60, 70 e 80 (daí o nome), essas girls from tokyo compõem músicas próprias (em inglês e japonês) e fazem covers, como dos rolling stones. a sonoridade é bem particular: um mix de surf music e garage rock com muito bom-humor, naquela atmosfera das jovens bandas japonesas.
the 5.6.7.8’s ficou mundialmente conhecida depois que quentin tarantino a convidou para tocar no filme ‘kill bill 1′. embalada por ’whoo hoo’ – cover de um rockabilly de 1959, no álbum ‘bomb the twist’ –, invadiu o ocidente em forma de ringtones a trilha para carros. mesmo com tanto hype em torno das garotas, vale muito a pena conhecer. é luxo!
