  • Horrible Attempt @ Beat-making

    I was listening to "Atom Heart Mother" the other night and remembered how much i love the big brassy orchestra parts (Rick Wright's "Summer '68" in particular). I've recently discovered Madlib and have been very impressed. The "Shades of Blue" & "Madvillainy" albums impressed me the most so far. I guess it kinda inspired me to fuck around with the Floyd song mentioned above, as well as a few other tracks. Obviously I had no real idea or knowledge on how to go about it, nor am i even taking it seriously at all.. just having some fun, even if it might sound like absolute trollop..

    So it took like 4 hours or so all up, using the following:

    Goldwave (to cut up the samples)
    FXpansion Amber (create the laughably default-sounding, out of tune base)
    Soundbooth CS4 (layer it all together)

    Very dodgy, but you get the idea... I enjoyed making it at least.

    First Record Bought:

    With my own money? I remember mom and dad purchasing me the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles album, which I LOVED. It was actual songs with actual instruments, although I'm sure the people that made it were all in their forties and were huge fans of pop metal shite (it was in the eighties, I think). It was terrible. But, with my own money, kinda, the first CD I bought was Hootie and the Blowfish's first album. BAHAHAHHAHAHA. HILARIOUS!!! Cassette, probably ... uh... Green Day or something.

    First Concert:

    Radiohead. Boring as all fuck. We sat on a big lawn and stared at Thom playing a piano with his back to the audience the entire night. People got high, I was young(er) and thus got uncomfortable. Really terrible experience.

    Favourite Music Movie:

    Music.. movie? Musical? No? The Belle & Sebastian doc is nice.

    Favourite Music Book:

    I keep meaning to pick up this Elvis Costello biography I bought a year ago.

    Favourite Songwriter:

    Elvis Costello probably, tied with Andy Partridge.
