Unlike lots of people doing all this "Top 10 albums of 2009" stuff, I decided to make a list of, in my opinion, best bands/artists I got into during the year. And they haven't necessarily had to released an album this year, although most of them did and lots of the records contributed to me liking them. I also gonna write a small paragraph why I liked them so much aswell. Yay for last.fm for recommending some stuff to me and whatnot.
Notice that some of the artists mentioned below don't need to be in my library yet, cuz I haven't got time to listen to some of them cuz I've been listening to newer stuff., I guess.
So yeah, let's start! :D
-----
#20 - Lady GaGa
One of the few pop artists I've found myself liking this year since I haven't been paying attention that much to this genre. The main reason that caused me to like Lady GaGa that much was the catchyness in her music and pretentiousness in her style. I also found the lyrics in some songs pretty ammusing. Sometimes her makeup is really annoying though.

#19 - The Human Abstract
I got into this band when I was practically whoring techy stuff. And their record Nocturne certainly was a fest of techiness and prog. I actually got to see this band live together with Protest the Hero and The Chariot, but little did I know back then that their lead guitarist AJ left and they already had a new record out (Midheaven) which was a total letdown. I didn't really even bother to download the album to listen to it after I've seen it at the show and just listened to all the songs on Youtube.
Favourite song: Vela, Together We Await The Storm
-----
#18 - War From a Harlots Mouth
I am proud possessor of merch from this band <3. I came across this band simply by accident. A kinda lucky accident. I finally had found an actually good german band, since Tokio Hotel and some other teenie-bands totally ruined german music for me in general (not to speak of german rap people, fuck them). WFAHM's style of deathcore and the sometimes hysterically-seeming vocals were one of the most enjoyables I ever heard.

#17 - Cage the Elephant
One of the later discoveries for me this year, Cage the Elephant instantly made it into my Top 20, although I never liked music of that type. I mostly enjoyed their riffing style and its flow with the lyrical themes and vocal delivery. It's pretty hard to be more awesome than songs like

#15 - Chelsea Grin
I honestly don't really know why I like this band. Their riffs are typically deathcore. Their vocals are typically deathcore. Their lyrics are typically deathcore. So why liking them? Simply because they're fun to listen to I guess. I mean, I could listen for instance to Suicide Silence, cuz they also play seven string guitars and also have thair guitars tuned down to Drop A and also want to be brewtul, but I don't. O YA CHELSEA GRIN HAZ AWSUM GUTTURALZZZ.
Favourite song: CrewCaBanger

#14 - Ophira
I really unknown band that my friend sockonfire told me about back when they only had 2 untitled, vocal-less demo tracks on their MySpace. They got my interest because the guitar work sounded alot like Oceana. Then they got their vocalist and their style certainly kinda changed, but still the songs were really awesome and the progressive approach was really welcome. I hope these guys get signed or something. :D

#13 - Closure In Moskow
I don't know why, but at first I kinda ignored that band after the first listen to their record First Temple. After a second and third listen I realized that this band actually playes really awesome progressive rock similar to the likes of The Mars Volta and The Dear Hunter. Can't really say much, except that they are really really fun to listen to. At certain doses though. It's not like I could listen to them for a whole day.

#12 - Drop Dead, Gorgeous
SOAKED IN BLOOD ONLY TO BE STERILIZEDDDD. The only fact that this band released a concept album (I have a passion for concept albums for some reason) about a murderer instantly caught my attention. Then, I listened to the album. I liked it alot. The vocals was awesome and the guitars were simple yet effective. Then, I read the lyrics and fuck they were awesome cuz they really helped me imagining the murderer's personallity and feelings.
Favourite song: It Sounded Like An Accident

#11 - Cynic
I guess this is one of the most influencial band in the progressive technical death metal genre. Paul Masdival, the guitarist and vocalist of Cynic that is, really impresses me as far as guitar playing and singing at the same time goes. Also the addittion of all those vocal effects give their sound a spacey feel which I really enjoy. Also not to forget the technicallity of course, hence the tag: progressive technical death metal.

K, from here it finally gets easier, cuz it's harder to pick the lower positions than the first ones >:l

#10 - Veil of Maya
Screw people (pl0x don't be offended <3) that say Veil of Maya sound like Born of Osiris. VOM are miles ahead of BOO in my opinion. Also the play in Dropped B, which instantly awesome (except for Bring Me the Hairspray, sorry, Horizon). Also the vocals aren't as boring and the breakdowns are much more groovy (listen to Pillars, 2 min breakdown ftw!). Plus they don't have gimmicky keyboards. Veil of Maya, you are fucking awesome. Now release a new album.
Favourite track: Entry Level Exit Wounds
----
#9 - Meshuggah
They actually use a bass string for the F sharp. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...
Meshugga are beast and that's the only appropriate way to call them. Bleed will melt your face away without you noticing it.
Favourite track: Pravus

#8 - Jonny Craig
At first I kinda hated his vocals on Relativity, probably cuz I didn't listen properly. After that I kinda forgot about him and Emarosa and old Dance Gavin Dance. Then I suddenly discovered that he released a solo album and thought "heck why not listening to it". Great descission I made there. For one, I discovered how awesome Jonny's vox are and for another I found an awesome album in A Dream Is A Question You Don't Know How To Answer.
Favourite song: istillfeelher partIII

#7 - The Veronicas
The second pop-band out of three in this Top 20 to be awesome enough for me to love. Lisa and Jess have skyrocketed themselves to place 10 by simply being as cute as they are. They make lovely music and actually play their instruments unlike most pop bands out there. Also I really love the diversity in their songs. In one song they can be cute (In Another Life) and in another pretentious (

#6 - Taylor Swift
The last pop artist to be mentioned in this list. And she's definetely not the least. It actually was really hard to decide wether Taylor should get #7 or #6, but since I can personally relate to her songs more than I can to The Veronicas' she should get the higher spot. Taylor's songs are plain cute and awesome. My friend m4neater once said that Fearless is even better if you have a crush, and she is certainly right about this. <3

#5 - Circa Survive
I'm kinda upset about people sometimes forgetting about the band and saying Circa Survive is JUST Anthony Green. Kinda like Bring Me the Whorizon, fuck this, Horizon with its shiny Oli Sykes. But it's not the case. Circa Survive actually has awesome instrumentation and Anthony's vocals awesomely suplement the whole package of fucking amazing music. And yeah if you do think Anthony Green is Circa Survive only, why not checking out his solo project that is also pretty awesome.

#4 - City Escape
I discovered this band only about 2 weeks ago and I gotta say that it's simply one of the best bands I've heard in the whole year. Obviously place #4 >_>. Their style of experimental ambient progressive post-hardcore is really something I've been loving as of late. Everything seems to fit in here. The vocals the guitars and the drumming. Pure love. My only complaint would be that their albums is kinda really short.
Favourite song: Now, The Hard Part

#3 - Of Machines
Yet another band I had problems deciding which place it should get. Especially since Of Machines and City Escape are quite similar. But Dylan of Of Machines has blown me away with his vocal range like no other before. That's why Of Machines surpasses City Escape and gets my #3 for 2009. This was really really really close though.
Favourite song: Lost In Translation

#2 - Eisley
This band is plain adorable. I just can't say much, I just love them. <3

#1 - Oceana
NOT THE SINGER! I guess this would be pretty obvious. Despite this band isn't my number one in my charts right now, this is the best fucking band I have listened to this year. Wether it's [album artist=oceana]The Tide or BIRTH.EATHER both albums have created a huge impact on me making me love literally everything about them. I actually had a shock period when they announced that they broke up.
Favourite song: TIES between Mindless Mindless, Hello Astronaut, Dead Speaker and The Abortion.
But in the end I love all the songs from them. <3
